Of all the threads we've had in the past year, this is the one that gets nuked. Odd.
I don’t really care if the mods jumped the gun or had info I don’t have. What I’m slightly perturbed about is the request set my radar off. Something seemed off.
There is a need to control info in police investigations.
1. You don’t want to tip off any perpetrator(s).
2. You want to be able to get a clean conviction in court.

Normally I would agree with this. However, a few here would remember a similar situation where an adult child went missing and the family tried to control the flow of info on social media. It blew up on them and in a rash decision, they tried to delete it all, made threats to people who screen-shotted it all, etc.
I'm the one who passed on the request to shut it down. Motive is not mine. Apparently there might have been some type of info being shared here that caught their attention and they contacted me to pass on the request to shut it down.
The authorities and families of the missing are the ones who really need to know all the information, and decide what the public needs to know. The rest of us don't have to understand or know everything. The most we can really do is pray, anyway.I can't imagine the emotions involved for those close to the missing person. I'm sure it is easy for them to make mistakes. Difficult and embarrassing things may come to light, and completely false information often gets mixed in as well. We should be patient and compassionate and not demand to know everything in these situations.
I came across the request about 2 AM last night. I did not have time to really dig into it. I just archived the thread until we (Mods) had the time to sort it out. I just erred on the side of safety until we got more information. I can move the thread back once we get more details.
I don't usually react the requests for threads to be gone, but a missing person is a different issue and would rather be safe than sorry. I am not interested in the fact that this information may be out there other places. I can not do anything about that, but if it helps the family right now, I am happy to do what little we can here.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.
I like your response Robert. I want to respect the families wishes and I’m certainly okay with removing that thread. Still I can’t help but think that this is going to be hopeless for them to keep a lid on this publicly though. Mennonet is hardly a high profile, widely read social media outlet. I’ve already seen newsletter style PDF email attachments this morning via mass email.
