My friend said her saffron is up and growing. She usually plants annual flowers in the saffron bed and then pulls them off when its time for the saffron to bloom.
I tried growing some the last couple years with little success. So this year I decided not to bother trying to grow saffron.
Is anyone growing Saffron?

I have sold saffron for years but don't know much about its use or production. All I know is it's expensive, almost $9 for .5 gram in my store:

I, too, would like to hear if anyone here's tried it. I looked it up once and it seemed possible. I'd like to grow it to use it and take it to farmers' market.

Well, it didn't cause me to lust so I guess I avoided adultery. My grandma used to grow saffron - she had a glass gallon jar 3/4 full.
She used it freely in her cooking - saffron noodles and her saffron gravy - MMmmmm!!

Barnhart, Its not hard to grow.
Plant the bulbs in August, they bloom in October. Pick the flowers each day and pull the red threads out and let them air dry. Then pack them up in an airtight container. And when your harvest is big enough, use freely!
I like this company's instructions for planting and care.

I've grown saffron in the past. Would have good success first season, next year moderate and then it disappeared.
Tried in my raised beds just in case it was moles or voles making it disappear and only came 1 year, didn't even get a 2nd year. So have given up. Maybe my soil conditions are wrong?
