I have always been extremely poor in being able to find things around the homestead. I'm wondering if this is a common malady among men in general or am I just extra challenged in this area? When my wife sends me down to the basement to get something out of the freezer, I can feel the apprehension rising the closer I get. Before I even open the lid I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about my chances of finding the item for which I was sent. I'll give it my best shot and then declare it's not there and then my wife will come down and put her hands right on it. It's highly aggravating to her to say the least.
But just this once, I was a hero. Read about it in the story below.

Re: Is it normal for men not to be able to find things?
I'll have to get back to the linked article. Meanwhile,
I often cannot find things and it usually is that for ten years or so I knew right where it was (even though it was not the best place for it), and then one day, I move it. Then comes a day I need it and because I moved it, I can't find it. I only remember where it was for 10+ years.
Most recently I lost the Battery Minder (for maintaining a full charge in a vehicle in storage). I looked everywhere and could not find it. Several weeks later, after I figured I would have to buy a new one (a sure way to find the old one as it will usually turn up after the new one is purchased), one day I was changing some batteries, dropped one, and it went into a box of junk. As I was digging through the box for the battery, I discovered the Battery Minder!
Oh no, please don't let my wife ask me to go get something for her. Invariably, i will look right at it and not see it. It is horrible having to fetch something for the wife.

My husband was tickled to hear about this topic- ask him why he has 4 hammers & 5 pair of sunglasses-
I think I was relieved to read this as well- (it can be somewhat frustrating)
I am not as good as your wife about knowing where to find the things he misplaces, but I can go right to the item in the refrigerator he is sure is not in there
But- I am one who always misplaced my keys and probably the best reason push button starts came out in vehicles.

I'm glad your husband is getting better at it!SJS wrote: I think my husband has gotten better at it than he used to be.
I'm afraid I haven't improved at all. That blog post was 7 years ago and I haven't noticed any difference since. Just this summer we were baling hay and I went looking for a roll of baler twine that I knew was in our basement, I thought on the canning shelves with the peaches, etc. I looked high and low; it wasn't there. The wife goes down and there it is. How could I miss it, a roll is as big as a two gallon bucket. I realized later that I had in mind I was looking for a bale of twine that comes in a pack with two rolls in it. Since that was what I had in my head, the single roll became invisible.

I hope this is entirely in jest, but I don’t think there’s a significant gendered difference in men of women being able to locate objects. I’m sure in some specific couples, there is a difference between the two individuals.
It’s always interesting to me how eager people are to find some way to put down men in general as clueless buffoons. Yet another sad artefact of our modern day culture.
