IMHO it seems to me God requires and needs His servants to be examples of following His principles. Period. The multi-million$ are irrelevant to Him who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and all the hills in the first place. “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof. The world, and they that dwell therein.” It’s ironic though, that an organization posing as a nonprofit charity, and a witness of Christ to the world would pay any individual a six figure income and act the way they did trying to cover up and do damage control.

Criticising CAM is not equivalent to hurting the poor.

Even at risk of having their words twisted?
Words can be twisted all they want. If any law enforcement agency gets involved (perhaps they all ready are??) they will go after hard facts and evidence. Not what the internet thinks. Not what Trudy blogs about (I do respect what she is doing).

The truth. Like what actually happened. Not what they want us to believe, not what they wish it was. Facts.

Thankfully the internet is not judge, jury and executioner. I'm not saying we're all wrong, but let the proper authorities do what they do.

I would take exception to this statement, Josh. I have no idea how much of CAM's funding comes from it's wealthy supporters but CAM also have serious supporters among the not so wealthy. "Sorry, Mike I didn't finish reading the thread before responding."

According to Charity Navigator, David Troyer (CAM's President) is paid $121,174, including compensation from affiliates. Compensation from affiliates is a common way staff and executives at large charities are paid.

This data was current as of 2017. I would assume they are paid more now.

Speaking of Charity Navigator, here are a a few areas they identify as areas for improvement.
Information provided to the IRS on Form 990:
Board Listed / Board Members Not Compensated

Is the following information easily accessible on the charity's website?
Donor Privacy Policy
Board Members Listed
Form 990
Key staff listed
In particular, CAM doesn't make it easy to figure out who their board is, and doesn't make it easy to figure out who key staff are. If this had been made easier, members of the board could have been contacted a lot sooner about this issue in Haiti. Other key staff could have been contacted as well.

I work for a business with a total budget that is about the same size as CAM's. Our executive staff, right up to the CEO, are quite easy to reach. A customer once reached out to the second-in-command via LinkedIn with an issue; in less than an hour, a VP was responding and multiple Directors were engaged.

This kind of reachability and rapid response is important to prevent scandals from spiralling out of control - including false accusations and illegitimate complaints. If there becomes a high volume of such complaints, an established process with oversight and audits can be set up to handle them.

Thanks, Josh, for that information. That is more likely to prevent me from contributing financially to CAM than all these other issues. By worldly standards that is not a large compensation. But when I consider all the unpaid volunteers and those who give faithfully of the little they have, it seems obscene to me. Are there really no good and capable men who would oversee this organization for less? I am sure he must be paid all kinds of travel and meeting expenses in addition to the salary.

I'd be pretty cautious of judging an organisation because it pays its chief executive $120k (a significant amount of which is from affiliates) and its other vice presidents around $80k.

One of the issues with people who work for free or cheap is that they often bring their own agenda to the leadership of the organisation. That can be a big problem. They are also vulnerable to becoming corrupt, where a donor is silently compensating them privately and then a donor is controlling how the organisation is run.

With that said, CAM is probably very open right now to having new senior executive staff. Perhaps some worthwhile changes can happen. I would also offer that it's quite hard to support a family in Holmes / Wayne County on a shoestring budget; land prices are very expensive here. Recently a 104 acre farm sold for $67,000 an acre.

Of all the reasons to not support CAM, this should not even register on the radar screen. It's a very modest compensation package. Josh offers additional details as to why it's also the right thing to do.

I am also unsure what paying his job related expenses has to do with this. That's not compensation.
