Yes I too have some issues in how third parties sometimes use social media to as you say blow open cases. However if I am reading this right in this case CAM had some time, should of known from past examples how this was going to be handled if they did not say something and yet still chose not to say anything till now. They should have known better. I am sure they had their reasons for not speaking out sooner, one being that perhaps the man is and has not been part of their organisation for awhile however that still is not good enough in my opinion if some of this took place under their watch.

It should never be necessary for social media to be the one calling men to account. I am shocked beyond belief at this. While he can be restored to right standing before God and the church, he still must make restitution to those he has wronged. This includes “Caesar “

He needs to be on the next plane to Haiti.

Failing to do this could destroy CAM’s creditability, and I mean forever. A “statement” is coming way too late.

I'm not taking CAM's side on this, but I work in a corporate environment and I see first hand why management chooses to keep things under the wraps. I've also seen where information should have been made public way sooner and it blew-up in management's face. Its a balancing act sometimes.

Praying for the victims here. :pray

It sounds to me like he has not been directly involved with CAM for a few years. So I am not sure Cam has the power to force him to go back. But hopefully they are strongly encouraging him to go.

I too have been involved in enough organisations to know that things like this are never simple to deal with. But putting off dealing with it almost never works. And regardless what you do a whole bunch of people will be able to tell you what you did wrong. Just like we are already doing even though we know very little of the story. I recognise I have already said too much and am going to be quiet at least until I know more.

The way I'm reading it is that the pastor in custody is the one who hasn't been involved with CAM for several years, but the perpetrator was until returning to the US very recently. If this is the case, I really hope they don't allow this pastor to be scapegoated, as it appears his wrongdoing was to report what he knew only to CAM and not also to the government.

Yes I know but I am not sure if the guy under CAM was not back in Haiti again under some other organisation. If not then CAM has even more explaining to do.

Where/how are they going to release their statement? And my advice would be for them to:

1) Unequivocally condemn the crimes.
2) Make sure they recognize the pain of the victims
3) Apologize on behalf of CA, the Anabaptist community, and the greater Christian tradition
4) Publicly ask Jeriah Mast to return to Haiti to face the consequences
5) Publicly commit to one of their "Higher ups" going to Haiti as well
6) Announce an independent investigation of all power structures (authority/accountability/human resources) that were part of the picture that permitted this to go on; to examine how this was reported and handled going back as far back as it goes back; to invite/expose/investigate any other allegations; to make restitution recommendations for the victims
7) Suspend, until the investigation is completed, any new hiring/resourcing or any new ministries

Yes, that is about what I would suggest. I found out about a situation, that was swept under the rug to “protect reputations.” I was on the board, having become active about 6 months after it happened. It was the “thing that went wrong” that led to the organization closing. When things are swept under the rug will live there, grow, and come out even worse than when they were placed under the rug. I have pondered the what ifs for years.

If you don’t deal with it, they will go to another place, normally re offend, and repeat the cycle until they are jailed, or otherwise dealt with. These people normally have lots of victims and seldom stop until caught. This is a big problem in the Baptist world. The Houston Chronicle just published a report on the SBC. The number of predators is over 200!
