I had a really good reason, I wanted one! Haha!Reflecting wrote:If scripture or even if only brethren would seem to not endorse / advise against / reject tattoos, then it seems to me, before I would be comfortable moving ahead with it anyway, want to have a REALLY good reason for feeling differently than my Christian brother ei biblical reason as stated by ole Mr George.PastorRich wrote:I dont need a biblical reason to have one. Having special meanings is not the same as scriptural support.
Ole man George throwing around terms like biblical and scriptural, hoping to add weight to things he cannot back up from the Word.

Not really. This is straight outta the Bible. You can argue with it. There's more scriptures like this. I met a number of ole times like yourself who come down hard on practices and when you quote the Word they say we are either misquoting it or as you say stretching it.gcdonner wrote:You are really stretching...PastorRich wrote:Revelation 19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written... hummm...

Sounds more like a reference to what happened a few days after Palm Sunday.PastorRich wrote:Isaiah 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands... hummm....sounds like a tattoo to me.

My observation, quite literally as I am on a train just now, is that some laws aren't enforced very rigorously, perhaps for practical reasons as much as anythinggcdonner wrote: Railroads have outlawed graffiti, no matter the subject matter as a matter of defacing their rolling stock...

This is quite probably a "matter of conscience"... No one's soul is on the line because of some ink on their epidermis, but obviously plenty can and will not do it cause of conscience

Re: Christians and tattoos
I think all of us do things that the Bible does not command. In some churches, things not commanded by the Bible are actively required for all members. To me, the better question is whether tattoos are consistent with what the Bible does command.gcdonner wrote:I don't need a biblical reason to have one. Having special meanings is not the same as scriptural support.
Suppose I had a dot tattooed where each of the wounds of Jesus would have been to remind me that I have died with Christ. To me, that's an application in the same way that a particular kind of veil or clothing is an application. I'm not likely to do that, but I wouldn't judge someone who did.
Suppose a woman in some culture has a dot tattooed on her forehead to indicate she is married. If Christians in that culture got such a tattoo, I can't see anything wrong with it.
I know some truly excellent Christians with tattoos. From what little I know of Pastor Rich and Mennogal, their faith seems genuine. (I assume I don't know anybody on MN well enough to really make such judgements, knowing someone online is always limited.)
