Re: Tomorrow
Going to a small convention of Anabaptist youth near Lisbon, Ohio. If anyone else wants to come, send me a PM. Starts at 5 PM.
(If I would have known about it sooner, I would have tried to invite more of you folks!)

Re: Tomorrow
2016:
i have some hopeful happy dreams right now.
first is the surprise my grdaughter might attend (Catholic HS) starting next week! my daughter married a Catholic, she converted and the baby was baptised. i’m not Catholic, i wouldn’t have chosen this, i support it for many reasons. i pray for the Holy Spirit to guide and protect them in His ways. i trust Him.
they applied LATE. i was surprised their application was accepted. the school needed quite a bit of information, plus meetings, a school tour.
she’s been accepted. now, how to fund?!
classes begin next week.
the child WANTS to go. that’s an important factor for me.
she started in C school, did well, K-3, i think. she adjusted to public school, but it was never the same for her. i hope this happens, i hope she thrives. i expect it will be more of a change for her than she realizes. i’m praying!
- - - - - - -
i tell my grdaughter, i love her so much - i wish we had 12 more - just like her!
my sil nearly faints when i say this.
my grdaughter knows i mean it.
i’d missed or forgotten about this topic.

Re: Tomorrow
While I wouldn't encourage a RC education, in my opinion it is far superior to public education. My daughter married an RC boy, and because she was protestant they decided that they wouldn't go to church anywhere rather than choose one or the other. The sad result is that her 3 children grew up knowing nothing about God at all, and subsequently have no interest in spiritual things as a result. Happily, one of her sons, who is autistic, has committed his life to Christ and been immersed as an adult and attends church with his folks. (My daughter divorced and then remarried...that's a different discussion)temporal1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:38 am 2016:i’d missed or forgotten about this topic.

Bible education cannot be left to the church, it needs to begin at home. The child may choose to walk away from the church (all of mine have at one time or another), but having a biblical foundation serves as a deterrent and they don't forget their upbringing no matter how far they may roam.
We pray for our children and grandchildren every day. Our older children have now returned to Christ, and our youngest is in the throws of conviction by the Holy Spirit, not yet having totally surrendered to Christ)
Mary worship is the major stumbling block with RC teaching for me (amongst a few others).

Thanks, george, this resonates, i’ll add, some on forum have encouraged me similarly.gcdonner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 12:06 pm While I wouldn't encourage a RC education, in my opinion it is far superior to public education.

Wayne was staunchly against it, which i understood and appreciate .. but .. i told him, not every family has a Wayne to lead them.
God provides, even when we don’t understand.
In their circumstances, i’m thankful the choice is there and her parents are willing. i hope.
i just had a talk with my younger brother about this yesterday. He is horrified i would support it.
i told him a number of things you describe - AND - my belief that, no matter who you are or where you attend, faith is a blessing of the Holy Spirit. without that blessing, you can read scriptures all day and have “nothing.” he actually agreed with that.
i pray for the blessings, guidance, protection of the Holy Spirit. in every circumstance.
i tell my grdaughter she is a child of God, His creation, we are her caretakers on earth. when she was little, we read devotions and scriptures, she taught herself to read this way as we read over the phone together. i was surprised, no effort on my part!
when she was in Catholic school, k-3, her teachers would remark, “she knows her Bible!”
i love my brother, we’re close. we talk about the Bible, usually agree. we’ve become close since our mother passed in 2006.

for anyone with grchildren at a distance, i strongly suggest reading over the phone. there are many positives.
get 2 Bibles/books, read along together. i bought children’s level books to begin. we used the phone, no facetime.
i felt this encouraged her to listen and focus on the book. she learned a lot by having to find page numbers, passages, etc.
i think of them as library skills. relying on hearing. “can you find page 336?” “can you find the table of contents?”
when we began, i had no idea whether she would be interested, at all.
she was, we had years of reading together. she’s a great reader now.
during the pandemic, her stressed teachers told her stressed mother they were impressed with how she could listen and follow instructions remotely. reading scriptures over the phone began as a whim, toddler-grmother. it worked out.

Re: Tomorrow
While we have the responsibility of leading and guiding our children (grandchildren), ultimately, as you said, it is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring each individual to Christ. I am seeing the benefit of "training up a child in the way he(she) should go". While there are no guarantees of salvation in this scripture, (contrary to what some would teach) I do find that a child brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord does NOT forget, even in their rebellion.
Praying faithfully is of the utmost importance.

She’ll be there Monday+Tuesday, classes begin Wednesday.
Today, many go without being introduced to Jesus’ name, let alone “training in the way he should go”.
Evenso, the Holy Spirit is at work.
There is so much more to this. Life and death.
