In my morning Bible reading I read:
Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
yea, wait for the Lord!
Psalm 37:9 For the wicked shall be cut off;
but those who wait for the Lord shall possess the land.
I'm not interested in exegesis or translations. I'm in interested in how do you live this out in your daily walk?
Waiting on the Lord

Re: Waiting on the Lord
I've had trouble in my own life when I tried to run ahead of the Lord, quite often it turns out badly. When I have an important decision to make, and I don't feel I have clear direction, I have found it is best to wait, follow the direction I do have, and the Lord then usually gives further direction as needed.MaxPC wrote:In my morning Bible reading I read:

Re: Waiting on the Lord
There are 2 wait on the Lord passages in Ps 37, the one you have quoted speaks of waiting patiently and the one in verse 34 means to wait expectantly.
I have found that sometimes it may require one or the other, or both in our patience. I try to remind myself that His time is not my timing. I remember one time in praying for guidance regarding a move or not to move. We did have a time frame, but God brought the answer "just in time". Our answer came through our new pastor. We had no direct sense of direction but were at peace about the move after much prayer. When I called and told our pastor he said, "Let the peace of God rule, let it rule!"
We prepared and made our move, the day after we moved, the area we moved from (in the mountains of PA), had one of the largest snow storms in recent memory at that time.
We had been patiently waiting, but also continuing to expectantly wait for His guidance as we continued to seek Him in prayer and weighing our options.
Waiting still required active involvement on our part while expectantly waiting for His response. Waiting did not translate into in activeness on our part, but faithful interaction with our heavenly Father in the process.
Our patience was rewarded because of His faithfulness.

Re: Waiting on the Lord
I see a timing and expectancy issue (faith) involved in this waiting but we also may go through a time of asking for God to do such and such in a way that best suits our desired outcome when God has plans beyond our understandings to not grant us our desired outcomes. Sometimes the answer is just 'no' but it may take some time for us to accept that answer.
Lately I have become more and more aware of how many corporate prayers are made telling God how we want things to turn out. I don't see a problem with making our petitions known to God but I think we should also ask including a submitting of our desires to how God may work things out in those prayers. Like when Jesus prayed in the garden. Father, I would like this to be a different course but nevertheless not my will but Your's be done.
1 John 5:14-15 -
God knows how in our humanness we desire things such as physical healings but God may have a reason(s) beyond our ways to not heal. Sometimes prayers today sound like God is this giant vending machine and if we just believe hard enough God must give us what we ask for. And, of course, God, we need it now ! As that verse above indicates, God does hear those kind of prayers.

So, waiting (being patient) and expecting (believing in faith) still only work if we are asking according to God's will. I like to finish the asking with 'if it be thy will' and being ready to accept that God is at work in all things to bring our good for those who love Him and what I currently am asking just might not be what is best in God's plans.This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Re: Waiting on the Lord
Waiting is not something we like to do in the 21st century. In the age of the internet, cars, airplanes, and microwaves, we want everything quickly. Instant coffee, instant popcorn, instant mashed potatoes. There are even 1-minute devotional books. We cram our schedule so full of other things that we can't wait on the Lord.
I think waiting on the Lord is not just something that you do when you're trying to make a big decision and waiting for His guidance. That's part of it, sure. I think waiting on the Lord is necessary to be ready for spiritual battle. Look what happens in Isaiah 40:30-31.
Now, even today we do wait for some things. We are willing to wait on what we prioritize. So, what are we prioritizing? I think that will tell us if we are waiting on the Lord, or not.

If we faint, grow weary, and fall, we will not have victory in our spiritual fight. So waiting on the Lord is essential preparation for spiritual battle.30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Now, even today we do wait for some things. We are willing to wait on what we prioritize. So, what are we prioritizing? I think that will tell us if we are waiting on the Lord, or not.

Re: Waiting on the Lord
I think I understand what you are asking. For me, it all comes down to contentment of our physical possessions. I firmly believe that greed and wealth rob us of our patience, especially in spiritual things. Why have faith in God if money buys literally everything? Not sure if this even makes sense...MaxPC wrote: I'm not interested in exegesis or translations. I'm in interested in how do you live this out in your daily walk?
