Many of the refugees were given US citizenship. Does the census require them to say whether they originated from Nepal?JohnH wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2026 2:39 pm The last census was in 2020; Akron city’s population was 190k and the entire metro area 700k.
The census claimed 3,200 Nepalis in Akron city’s population, nearly all in one area.
Perhaps there are an additional 46,000 here covertly, not responding to census takers, etc but I really doubt it.

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

The census asks people what their ethnic background is and what their race is. (Akron’s census doesn’t show anywhere close to 50,000 people who are Asian, mixed race, other race, or decline to state).Ernie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2026 2:42 pmMany of the refugees were given US citizenship. If Akron were really 20% Nepalis, I think those of us who live here would have noticed by now.
Incidentally I worked with a fellow from Nepal in the Akron area who relocated there. He wasn’t even aware of the Nepali community, and he himself ended up settling in Green.
I will leave it as an exercise to you to figure out why that might be.
