It's been over 2 years since FSD has required steering wheel torque. The new capabilities are really not even comparable to that generation.Sliceitup wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2026 1:47 amI’ve driven one. It’s more capable than many assume, and yet also requires much more attention than what the masses would have you think.
In other words I can drive down a highway and it will change lanes for me, pass cars, move back to the right lane, all without me turning the wheel. It will go through intersections and stop at lights on its own. Caveat: every so many seconds it wants to feel tension on the steering wheel or it starts to get mad. That tension is how it knows the operator is still there, and if it goes too long without then it will beep until you use tension again. The tension is weird and takes a bit to get used to, because it feels very counterintuitive. And in inclement weather it wants tension reassurance very frequently. In clear conditions it’s less needy.
Oh and it did require me to “approve” lane changes before it would do them. Or maybe it was that I could deny a lane change. Can’t remember which.

Re: FSD Vehicles
I drove a Tesla with FSD about a week ago. Drove all over Scottsdale and Phoenix Arizona over two days.
It blew my mind, I was super impressed. I think I want to find a used one now with FSD. The cognitive load reduction was notable, not needing to decide whether to pass or not, change lanes, no missing turns, no trying to pay attention to the GPS directions. Just get in and press the button. No pressing footpedals to start the car, no even starting the car at all. I literally got in, didn’t touch the wheel or pedals or any shifter. The destination was already in the screen, and I only touch the button on the screen one single time, and it took me where I needed, without any further input from me. Got to destination, and found itself a parking spot, and parked itself. I didn’t even have to touch the wheel, or pedals, and didnt have to put it in park. I simply got out just as a passenger would.
Initially, the case for Tesla was saving the planet, then it was saving money on fuel. That was sort of the selling points. FSD has been a slow evolution, and it isn’t what people think of when they think of Tesla. But FSD is truly a game changer. I would buy one only for that feature alone.
The car I was using, had stats of the last 2,000 miles driven, and it showed that FSD was used 98% of thise miles. I can see why.

It's not full-blown FSD, but check out https://comma.ai - your car may be supported, and it's less than $1,000 to upgrade it with that.R7ehr wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:27 pm I drove a Tesla with FSD about a week ago. Drove all over Scottsdale and Phoenix Arizona over two days.
