I find it hard to believe that the next generation will limit themselves to five minutes ... Or that the majority this generation will in ten years.GaryK wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:14 pmIs this an indication of transitioning to not being plain at all?eccentric_rambler wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:12 pmOlfactory organs of humped quadrupeds penetrating perimeters of portable dwellings comes to mind.

Yes. If it's considered not the best use of time, then doing it six times as long would be six time as bad.

I doubt it, since it has been this way a very long time. Most other more conservative groups are more comfortable with a little bit of watching a video clip on someone else's phone, but not comfortable at all with intending to sit down and watch a feature-length film, or just watch a few hours of broadcast TV in one's home.

So do the Holdemans have an internet filter that would block videos?JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:29 pmI doubt it, since it has been this way a very long time. It limits the amount of minutes of YouTube you can watch per day. So you can spend a few minutes looking for a video to help you fix your car window, etc., but you can't sit and watch hours and hours of a streamer or a TV show or whatever it is people are watching on YouTube these days.Southerner wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:30 pmSo do the Holdemans have an internet filter that would block videos?JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:29 pmI doubt it, since it has been this way a very long time. That sounds nice...I like the instructional videos but there's a lot of slop.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:32 pmIt limits the amount of minutes of YouTube you can watch per day. Wife: they created CloudVeil, which is a filtered version of telegram, and I don’t know how their affiliation filter effects what people can access. I’m unaffiliated Mennonite on it, so I don’t have any limitations, but hypothetically, if you’re Holdeman or certain other groups, it’s more locked down, so I would assume they actually do care about it.Southerner wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:30 pmSo do the Holdemans have an internet filter that would block videos?JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:29 pmI doubt it, since it has been this way a very long time. It's not the world's best filter, although it sort of works.Southerner wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:34 pmThat sounds nice...I like the instructional videos but there's a lot of slop.
I have talked to the various committees about how with AI technology today, we could create a near-perfect Internet filter; it would monitor your computer usage and allow you to do basically anything permitted, but would prevent anything not permitted, with nearly perfect accuracy. However our discussions led us to believe that there would be little demand for such an Internet filter:
1. The people who want to avoid doing non-permissible things on their computer already avoid doing it.
2. The people who want to do non-permissible things, but also want to say "I'm using a filter", would not appreciate a filter with 99.9% accuracy.

It's only locked down more for a few groups that requested it like Nationwide.Soloist wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2026 2:35 pm Wife: they created CloudVeil, which is a filtered version of telegram, and I don’t know how their affiliation filter effects what people can access. Holdemans are, in general, transitioning to being a "self-filtering" culture.
