I was never aware of this difference between China and Taiwan. For some reason I thought that China did not restrict Buddhism.

I was a little surprised visiting Taiwan at the number shrines and temples. It's very mountainous and each village sets in a valley and at the head of each valley is a temple or shrine, most with smoke rising.
