La Gloria and Haran
What is the background of the following colonies in Bolivia: La Gloria and Haran? What are their mother colonies? Are they Old Colony (Altkolonier) Mennonites? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

La Gloria is evangelical.Disciple of Christ wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 2:04 am What is the background of the following colonies in Bolivia: La Gloria and Haran? What are their mother colonies? Are they Old Colony (Altkolonier) Mennonites? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
Haran's mother colony is Gruenwald that is in fellowship with Lower Barton Creek, the most conservative anabaptist group in the world. All the residents of Haran and Gruenwald are of old colony origin.

I have heard rumblings that things are changing in Lower Barton Creek; some other group has come in and influenced them and persuaded them to get rebaptised in order to be more "spiritual" which (as always) comes along with more worldly practices.lmcdoss wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2026 5:26 pmLa Gloria is evangelical.Disciple of Christ wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 2:04 am What is the background of the following colonies in Bolivia: La Gloria and Haran? You probably mean Upper Barton Creek that was noah hoover mennonites. They started leaving in 2017 for Birdwalk and roseville because of tourism. Some old order mennonites from Canada moved in, but the colony is pretty much empty.JohnH wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2026 11:55 pmI have heard rumblings that things are changing in Lower Barton Creek; some other group has come in and influenced them and persuaded them to get rebaptised in order to be more "spiritual" which (as always) comes along with more worldly practices.lmcdoss wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2026 5:26 pmLa Gloria is evangelical.Disciple of Christ wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 2:04 am What is the background of the following colonies in Bolivia: La Gloria and Haran? Only other Low German mennonites would be able to influence the Lower Barton Creek on those matter because of language. They do not learn english in their schools( so they only learn the basic after school for trade) even though Belize's official language is english.

I think it would have been about the Upper community, but this came secondhand from someone who had recently visited another Hoover community.lmcdoss wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 7:12 pmJust out of curiosity where have you heard that?
Some group is running around Belize trying to do this, don't remember the name. I guess the Hoovers considered Belize a "lost cause" now. I can perhaps try to find out some more details.

They are still growing in Belize though. There are always groups who try to target those who are more conservative. It happens all the time in Latin America against the Old Colony Mennonites.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 8:09 pmI think it would have been about the Upper community, but this came secondhand from someone who had recently visited another Hoover community.

Re: La Gloria and Haran
I have heard the EPMC is having success in gaining converts from the Old Colony Mennonites in Bolivia. The EPMC already has three congregations in Bolivia originating from the Old Colony Mennonites.
