Alcohol Consumption - Past and Present

Post by Ernie »

Country | % Active Drinkers | Per Drinker Consumption (Pure Alcohol / Year)
France | ~87% | ~3.4 to 3.6 Gallons
Germany | ~84% | ~3.9 to 4.0 Gallons
Australia | ~81% | ~3.4 to 3.6 Gallons
United Kingdom | ~78% | ~3.6 Gallons
Canada | ~69% | ~3.8 to 3.9 Gallons
Russia | ~61% | ~4.9 to 5.3 Gallons
United States | ~54% – 60% | ~4.4 to 4.8 Gallons
Brazil | ~48% | ~4.1 to 4.4 Gallons
China | ~42% | ~4.2 to 4.5 Gallons
India | ~15% – 20% | ~6.5 to 6.9 Gallons

These figures track 100% pure absolute alcohol, not the total liquid volume of the drinks. Notice the inverse relationship: countries with a lower percentage of active drinkers (like India, China, and the US) actually see much higher, more intensive consumption rates among the specific subpopulation that does drink.
