How many elderly drivers have you tried to teach new tricks to? It's hard enough to "take their keys away" by giving them a fob and a start button on the dash when they've been inserting a key into an ignition switch for 75 years. FSD would confuse my parents so much they'd rather give up driving than try to learn it.
Some may not know this, but a starter button is very old technology. The key just turned on the spark, then you pushed the starter button to engage the starter motor.

My next older brother & I had some fun with that in our Grandpa's 49 Ford. We were left in the car while Grandpa & Grandma, and our mom were picking strawberries on shares. We waited until someone was passing in front of the car, and then we'd give the starter button a quick jab, and the car would lurch forward just a bit. (Grandpa had left it in first gear, to prevent it from rolling back.) It was great fun until a man came past that couldn't take a joke.

My Dad's 53 Dodge pickup had the starter button on the floor boards, up and to the left of the gas pedal. Same with my other Grandpa's Dodge PU, a 52 model. My 46 Plymouth has the starter button on the dash, to the left of the steering column. The young whipper Snappers don't know the half of what 'new things' are actually very old things. How many know that most of the very early cars were electric (battery powered)?

It only takes once.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Well, automobiles are part of the modern world (and indeed the single deadliest aspect of the modern world, for young people). If one is going to embrace the modern world (such as megacities, suburbs, automobiles, AI, and many other things), one might as well embrace all of it and at least mitigate some of the damage.

I'm curious how many people expressing an opinion here have actually driven in an FSD capable Tesla.

Anyone want to share their actual experiences?

My son just bought one. It is a wrecked salvage unit and he will be fixing it. So I should be able to let you all know soon.

I drove it tonight. Unfortunately it didn’t come with FSD and upgrading it requires hardware that isn’t really worth it for this car. I was impressed with how it drives. A few things would take getting used to for sure.

Check out what devices Comma.ai supports:

It's not Tesla FSD, but it's still pretty neat. I'm trying to convince my dad to put it in his RAV4.

I’ve driven one. It’s more capable than many assume, and yet also requires much more attention than what the masses would have you think.

In other words I can drive down a highway and it will change lanes for me, pass cars, move back to the right lane, all without me turning the wheel. It will go through intersections and stop at lights on its own. Caveat: every so many seconds it wants to feel tension on the steering wheel or it starts to get mad. That tension is how it knows the operator is still there, and if it goes too long without then it will beep until you use tension again. The tension is weird and takes a bit to get used to, because it feels very counterintuitive. And in inclement weather it wants tension reassurance very frequently. In clear conditions it’s less needy.

Oh and it did require me to “approve” lane changes before it would do them. Or maybe it was that I could deny a lane change. Can’t remember which.

Must not have been the current Tesla FSD, because it doesn't require that. Some other car manufacturers (which are not anywhere near Tesla's FSD level of function) require that.

Well, that's not how Tesla FSD works. It knows the operator is still there by watching your eyes. It does not require approval for lane changes.

Whatever you used didn't sound like Tesla FSD at all. Tesla FSA can regularly be used for hours at a time with almost no interaction; about the only thing you can't do is sleep or stare down at your phone since it will detect your eyes aren't on the road.
