Going through a full blown trial in which a jury determines the outcome would mean even more of their lives being scrutinized. So they take a plea deal, plead guilty, but continue telling everyone they are innocent.
The situation Neto described, however, was people where DNA evidence proved they were not perpetrators at all.
The justice system is broken. I’ve long given up seeing justice in this life for my own abuse story. I’ve went through all the legal avenues that I know of. I’ve spent close to $15,000 in therapy and I am finally able to live without that constant fear hanging over my head. Of course, I have bad days. Days where the anxiety hits me like a train. But there’s been a level of wholeness I didn’t know was possible.
I would say America's justice system isn't that broken and is actually one of the better ones. We do lean towards not convicting innocent people versus trying to convict more guilty people. I think that is a good thing, though.

As a Christian, I wouldn't really pursue justice for myself, but I would certainly pursue it on behalf of others, particularly in the sense of simply letting the truth be known and then letting the worldly government authorities decide what they want to do. In the present era, the worldly government authorities very much lean on the side of aggressively pursuing abuse. However, they still can't be perfect, because they aren't God. Only God can bring about perfect justice, but we should remember that God also values mercy as much as he does justice.
In response to this last paragraph:

Justice isn’t the same as revenge. Revenge is wrong and should be left to God. Justice is a merciful thing; justice protects perps from continuing to harm. Justice protects victims and potential victims from being harmed more.

I chose to report my rape because I didn’t want more little girls to go through what I went through. I didn’t do it for revenge.

As for the justice system leaning on the side of aggressively pursuing abuse, I do not agree.

I have not seen that. My inbox is filled with stories of women who reported their plain abusers and nothing ever happened. The amount of cases that never see the court or jail time is staggering.

America's justice system (and the west in general) is probably more tilted towards pursuing sexual abusers than any other justice system in memory, and certainly around the rest of the world right now. This is balanced against the Western system (and in particular America) also has a presumption of innocent until proven guilty.

That doesn't mean every possible person who has done something wrong gets successfully prosecuted. And it would be impossible for it to be so without a very oppressive police state. I don't think that's something any of us want, is it?

The American system would become "Guilty until proven innocent".

How does this case relate with SS and TM? From what I can tell they are not related situations.

What do you mean by “the rot goes deep”? Both Amish and non Amish people groups have these kind of problems. From my conversations with law enforcement and social workers, Amish in Holmes Co. have fewer problems with it their non-Amish neighbours.

If you want to see less abuse, then apparently the solution is for me people to be Amish.

The rot goes deep, but not among the Amish (in this case, at least).

The headline is "Amish brothers charged in Allen and DeKalb counties with child sex crimes". We scroll down we see two mugshots of average northern rural blue collar men looking very distinctly not Amish. Strange. Perhaps the article will explain this and clarify their relationship to the Amish church. We continue reading, "watching a movie at the ... family home". Ah.

(Nearest I can tell from the article, the closest Amish connection is that the grandparents are Amish.)

I realize it's not your article and you didn't write it. It's just a frustrating pattern I've noticed where the news tries stretch (or in this case apparently just make up) an Amish angle into these kinds of stories to sensationalize an otherwise mundane story. I remember reading articles which tried to tie Jeriah to the Amish, for example. It makes for a more exciting story than "Mennonite-adjacent church" I guess.

I agree that whoever wrote the article was not being completely truthful with the “Amish” label, although it does appear like they grew up Amish and/or have Amish relatives.

What I meant by the “rot goes deep”, is that if you peel back the layers of this case, you’ll find that Amos Raber married a 16 year old girl to one of these guys. You’ll find that that the abuse victim was silenced by the church and the pastor, Ron Miller. You’ll find that when the abuse victim told trusted adults, one of them went on to do exactly the same things to her that she spoke up about. (This is how the brothers’ cases are connected).

The rot goes deep because so called spiritual leaders are not actually protecting the sheep. They are protecting wolves.

I am very disappointed in Amos Raber and I hope he offers an explanation on the matter. Amos Raber married the couple in 2020. The girl was signed off by some relatives. Could it be that Amos Raber was unaware of the prior abuse, by the groom.

And as usual after Trudy's FB post about Amos Rabor, her followers piled on with their hate filled posts stereotyping Mennonite and Amish men as predators and abusers.

With one poster saying:
"I'm gonna say it.... if you wanna protect your kids, get them as far away from Amish/Mennonite/Anabaptist communities and churches".

And another poster saying:
“What a bunch of inbred, disgusting pedophiles"!

I know some of you justify Trudy allowing those types of posts, saying she has no control over what people post on her Facebook page, but she definitely does. Facebook account holders have the option to turn on a review system before posts appear, stop certain people from posting or stop people from posting entirely. She says she doesn’t allow name calling either, but name calling is happening frequently, (as in the example above).

The posts she allows is such a huge distraction away from the work she does.

Yes, totally different cases. The only connection is regarding the question of false accusations, and that some many innocent people actually 'confessed' or plead guilty to rape charges that were later proven to be false, based on DNA results. Those people were "assumed to be guilty until proven innocent', in contradiction of US judicial law. (Or rather, they felt so helpless in the process of the investigation that they just gave up and said that they did it, when they actually hadn't.)
