I rarely fly on a Sunday, usually weekdays. Four anecdotal observations.
1. Way more kids and families in the airports traveling on Sunday vs. weekdays.
2. Not just kids with one parent, but with two parents.
3. Families seem to have multiple kids, 3-4, not just 1.
4. I’m surprised to see how many mothers are wearing dresses and skirts.
I suspect many of these families are Christian.

Re: Today ...
Sometimes; it all depends on the dates and route. Saturdays are frequently cheaper than Sundays, though.

Re: Today ...
There is a certain class of plain people who won't travel on Sundays.
Then there is another class that intentionally does, since it provides an excuse to skip church.

i’m glad weekends aren’t usually bargains for flights.
my car is elderly, i prefer to travel during regular business hours when i can.
in case i need a tow, tires, etc. i prefer not to bother people off hours.
sometimes travel on holidays can be less expensive. my family has taken advantage of that at times.

Re: Today ...
On Saturday I sat down with a Christian relative by marriage who used to be the state highway spokesman, and is now a driver training instructor. I wanted clarification on the clash between speed limits and impeding traffic; because as I told him, "I want to do right." Specifically, if I were in the right lane on the Interstate, going the speed limit, and everyone else is ten miles over, could I be ticketed for impeding traffic? He couldn't say (although he's a stickler for personal responsibility in driving). However, he gave me this illustration (taken, I think, from a meeting of driving instructors): One of them was in a 55 MPH zone, trying to keep up with the flow by doing 80, and a patrolman pulled alongside him, and indicating for him to roll his window down, yelled, "SPEED UP!"

Note to self: Stay out of Atlanta and other big cities!

i was a young teen when my father pointed out highway signs setting MINIMUM speed limits. new concept.JoyE wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2026 10:48 am On Saturday I sat down with a Christian relative by marriage who used to be the state highway spokesman, and is now a driver training instructor. i believe this was near Chicago, Min Speed set at 45mph. heavy, fast traffic. no place to pull over.
50+years ago.
Quite a shock for many. Interstate roads were still new. 45mph was generally considered a respectable highway speed.
My father+brothers did auto body repair. They thought a lot about these things.
i was so timid about driving, i -reluctantly- got my license at 19. i was so afraid of hurting someone.

My daughter believes Seattle+area drvers are generally patient, as compared to other urban areas. i think she’s correct.
It might be because thick traffic slows everyone down.
My grdaughter is driving, has no perspective about other areas. She’s careful.* She thinks “this” is regular city driving.
i’ll warn her about Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, if the occasion arises.
*careful.
she followed us to take her car to a repair shop.
she stayed about 6 car lengths behind.
later, she said, “i didn’t want to tailgate you”.
there is no recourse but to love her.

Re: Today ...
Today .. packing.
i’m not a happy packer.
only outdone by my dislike of unpacking.
This time is worse.
Beside travel, moving is happening.
Not “just” to college. “Everyone” is moving, i might be, too. Not yet determined.
So, add organizing and throwing stuff away to the usual.
Now that so much has expiration dates, that part is somewhat easier.
Big changes all around.
My grdaughter and i had a specially nice day yesterday.
We took the light rail to visit her summer internship office, and wandered around the area.
The weather couldn’t have been better. We had hot dogs right there, she ate every bite, unusual for her.
We got in+out of Seattle without a glitch. i don’t want her going alone tho. i really don’t.
We also stopped by a nearby stable she used to frequent, a bit of a familiar walking trail we used to enjoy, a stop at the church parish office where the secretary was so happy to see her; we failed to find a certain beach landing we used to enjoy - too tired to figure it out. Save it for the next visit! We got a lot done without rushing.

Re: Today ...
Home.
Late, flight redirected, overnight in Chicago, battered+bruised, driving home in a downpour, but, home.
It was about weather. The 4 hour flight to Chicago turned into 7 hours, we refueled in GRR.
i’m not talking about battered+bruised, i can’t trust you guys not to squeal. it was my doing.
i’m reminded of the topic of foreign visitors loving the USA. everyone i met was the best.
My seatmate was a new college graduate working in Seattle shipyards in maintenace.
He worked in the shipyards while in school. Was hired right away.
We had several micro-talks over the 7 hours. Very interesting. He was reading a real book.
We were supposed to be landing, i told him, from Seat 33A, “that’s not Chicago down there”.
It was pitch-black, no lights at all.
Lake Michigan.
There were storms around, many-all flights diverted.
We landed in GRR. They weren’t ready for us, no room at the inn, they put us somewhere, sent a fuel truck.
A few people got off there. i didn’t want to do that to my son. about 20 min away, i’m sure sleeping.
AA had us rebooked with overnight rooms and shuttles before we landed in Chicago.
i wish something could be done to help tall people with seating.
they’re very cramped, PLUS they often do more helping others with lifting, etc., without being asked.
the seats are cramped for me at 5’4! i can’t imagine being 6’ or taller. many are over 6’.
it is a weird.
