No. NPR, that great cesspool of liberal propaganda. I was curious whether other sources acknowledged the mixed signals coming from the government.

Valerie, this is your thread. How should we be approaching this? Time to discuss?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Re: Just Curious
By the 4th day I had been hearing about it a lot. I saw nothing was brought up about it in the forum. It’s a pretty big deal so I was curious if members here had heard about it.
Sometimes I realize I get a LOT of current stories that I can tell don’t seem to have been heard about here even though members have felt I was wrong to imply that most here don’t get a lot of the current events or details. Again, that is fine with me but at the same time if you don’t, certain bias can happen because one isn’t hearing all the latest.
Basically I just wanted to know who had heard after 4 days of non-stop coverage & details about what they knew so far.
By the way, 2 more men involved were just arrested. There’s still plenty more that can create another similar plot.

I considered doing so with this story when the alleged perpetrator turned out to be from Danville but I had other things to do with my time.
Nonetheless, I find the rise of right wing violence concerning.

Re: Just Curious
If I want to read the news, I read the news. The number of stories covered in the part of MN is very small, and that's fine with me. That's not what I come here for. It's hard to get a summary of basic details efficiently here when a story does come up on MN. Maybe there's a lot better coverage in the Politics subforum, but I prefer not to subscribe.Valerie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 1:45 pmBy the 4th day I had been hearing about it a lot. Most people seem to get their news from social media feeds these days. Or ideological sources. Bias is built in.
This story was covered across the political spectrum, more loudly in some parts than others. I assume these cases will go to trial and get stronger coverage then.

Re: Just Curious
I got my news about this story from a local newspaper website, then Googled a bit and read more info from local TV stations that covered it on their websites.
I suspect most other people did too. Lots of newspapers and TV stations do make social media posts, though. Do you have some objection to that?

For most of my life, i viewed/listened to PBS, NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC .. pretty much n that order. Local newspapers.
No sensationalist papers.
i praise God i was never so taken by them i can’t accept non-traditional content. However, i don’t open the majority of what appears, i haven’t joined Twitter, X, or other ..
i have no trouble understanding opinion, reaction, discussion pieces aren’t “news”.
i’m convinced msm can’t differentiate!
msm went off the rails long ago.
they had a “virtual” monopoly, AND it grew into a huge industry.
if not for very deep industry pockets keeping them alive, they’d be a distant memory now.
they were spoiled, they don’t want to wake up and smell the coffee, get back to work.
basic human nature.

i don’t formally follow any site. i see headlines/content, i look at the source, there are many i won’t touch. like, MSNOW. ugh.
if i see content by a familiar source, i may review it, print or video.
if i’m further interested, i’ll do a general search to see what AP, NYT, WSJ, NY POST, BBC, or others are reporting. Matt Taibbi.
National Review. the White House website. and whatever HK drops.
i often choose AP or other (not paywall) to post on forum, because those sources aren’t routinely criticized.
i’m pretty happy with the MIX of sources i use. i think of myself as a bit of a content omnivore.
i may be pigeonholed as consuming “only” certain types of content. i don’t think that’s reality.
paywalls are annoying.
however, most paywalled content is available through another source. with ads.

Robert introduced a variety of nontraditional content to the forum.
The Blaze. Viva Frei. Tim Poole.

Re: Just Curious
To me, this is a reminder that:
1. Drones and similar weapons are available to a lot of people.
2. This makes some kinds of terrorism possible now that were not previously possible. Whether or not these people were actually in a position to deploy their plan or not, which is not yet clear to me, this can happen in the future.
3. Political violence may get a lot more scary.
The threat landscape is changing.
