One minister actually gives me his sermon notes and I get more from my 3 minute read then I do from his 50 minute sermon.
I hear you. Some speakers have a voice that should be declared a cure for insomnia.

Oh this guy is loud. No one sleeps through his sermons.
It’s just an audio processing thing. Easier to process text then visual + audio
And given our role in weighing what is taught, it’s much easier to read and assess then listen and try to scribble furiously for later evaluation.

I retain the most by writing good notes. I never read them, just the effort of organizing on the page focuses my mind enough to retain it.

Well he got a COGICM doctrine question in there on his poll. About the importance of men wearing a beard. 20% respondents agree with the COGICM statement on the beard, 79% disagreed. "We believe that men grow beards by order of creation. Wearing a beard indicates respect for God's order."
I got to wonder. There’s some races that don’t have a lot of facial hair or almost none at all so how do they look at that?
Some of these races of people are white, for example, so I guess they would be part of the unbearded white race.
In Holdeman circles they just grow whatever they can.

might AI be able to give you text or audio?
Claude can’t do that at least not on my version. ChatGPT might but I doubt for free.
That sort of thing would burn through tokens relatively quickly as well. People like videos…

Xiaomi MiMo's speech to text is currently free; Grok's is 10 cents per hour if you batch it and 20 cents per hour real time.
If you want to sign up for Xiaomi MiMo let me know and I'll send you a referral code so we can each get a $2 credit. They also have a trial basis for their new hyper speed edition of 2.5-Pro which generates 1,000 tokens a second.
By the way using DeepSeek V4 Pro or Xiaomi's MiMo 2.5 Pro is pretty much equivalent to coding with Claude Code; you can still use Claude Code or you can even use another harness like OpenCode or ohmypi.

Well now loud is good for singing but not always good sermoning. It sets my teeth on edge when a speaker is loud. The problem I have sometimes is when the speaker is going on like a freight train and I don't time to pick out an idea and chew on it. Written text and notes let me stop on a section and chew on it for awhile. I'll scribble some in the margins and then on a notebook I'll scribble some more.

I retain a lot by rewriting my notes. When the test is done if it hasn't stuck in my head afterwards it probably never will.

There was or I should say IS an Amish community in Maine who of course have beards AND mustaches (a friend lived in that community years ago. They said if it grows there it should show there. I can see that point of view as it seems Gods design.
I use the same rationale for why to not bathe or shower. It's obviously God's design for us to smell like sweat and stinky feet.
That’s not a good rational when being “clean” is taught in Scripture but that was cute.
Well, yes, but Jesus taught that washing just the feet is sufficient...

It's clearly God's design for us to be butt naked, too, considering that's how we're born...
(until he made coats out of a nearby lamb, of course - and yes, I once heard it explained that that is when God ordained the plain coat, when he made "coats" for Adam and Eve because the fig leaf wasn't enough.)
