I don’t think he’s the same person although a few traits stand out with similarities.
Perhaps he’s the grandson that’s reached out before.
At any rate, sure is a mystery that occupies many minds here…

If that was the case, the individual would still be lying. That being said, there is a difference between a claim of plain catholic and primitive Baptist in regards to impacting Anabaptists regardless of honesty or not.
I just don’t see it as relevant anymore. He’s either dead or not, he’s either still here or not. The threat I saw from the lies no longer is the case.

I don’t know what all is the background and I don’t really want to know. I’m just getting input from y’all on topics I’m seeing pop up in social media.
This very post contains evidence to establish a connection.
Is there a philosophical term for this? In programming we would call this a "quine".

Although Max was sometimes pretty touchy when anyone differed with him on some element of Catholic practice, I never saw any threat to anabaptism, whether or not there even was such a thing as "plain Catholics". Plainness is not the central value of anabaptist belief. Orthodox Judaism is, in may respects, very 'plain', and there can be no doubts as to their actual existence, but that is no threat to anyone who is grounded in the Word.

Are there any people here who question the existence of Primitive Baptists? I personally know nothing of them first hand (as to their practices or beliefs), but I have seen their meeting houses in Missouri and or Arkansas.

I disagree, since I have had real-life discussions with Catholic people who thought that Plain Catholics might indeed exist due to them coming up in Google searches, etc., all seemingly due to the efforts of MaxPC. (As some of you may now, I recruited both a priest and a bishop who were eager to meet with any actual such Plain Catholics, but MaxPC rebuffed this offer, with false claims that a bishop would be exceeding his authority to do so.)

Dominating a Mennonite/Anabaptist forum, particularly one where people will be trying to find out information about a plan lifestyle, with a high volume of posts with false claims about a "plain lifestyle" in Catholic circles - that doesn't actually exist - is indeed quite harmful.

No, because Primitive Baptists have long been attested in literature from reliable sources. However, JohnL claims to be a "Freewill Baptist" whose existence is likewise not contested at all.

Good point. Especially if people have the idea that "Well, I read it on a [Mennonite / Anabaptist] forum, so it HAS to be true! Then 'we' get blamed for it. I don't know anymore that anyone else who interacted with Max whether he was mostly on the up and up, or not. Or even if he was really person that he described. Nor do I know why he was so secretive.

I suppose that in many ways I'm rather naive, and too 'believing'. Like the time I trained a new employee in at United Plating Works in Tulsa, and on into the first day on the job he asked me to tell the boss that he needed to take his daughter to the hospital, and named some long Latin-sounding 'disease name'. I couldn't remember the name of it even long enough to tell the boss, but he just laughed, and when I looked surprised, said Just wait. You'll never see that guy again. And he was right. The new employee didn't even have the guts to say he was quitting.

Apparently yes. So give us a complete list of all of your relatives, down to your 5th cousins. And don't leave out any of the famous or unsavory ones. ;)
I'll give up one of my third cousins, one who 'scored' in both categories, having been both famous, and also wicked (as in repeatedly adulterous): Johnny Deutschendorf, AKA 'John Denver'. (I don't have any other relative who were famous.)

I've been thinking about this.

To me, the real problem is not just with lies, but with abusive liars, who people personally if they point out the truth or disagree. And that's a problem whether or not the claim is true or false. Even truth can be told abusively.

When we don't feel safe discussing things and disagreeing, there's a problem. In a small online community, I think that's a problem even if it is online.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Okay I can play that with relish and mustard. I had a great uncle who used to claim he was related to the pirate Blackbeard when he was sampling a little too much of his latest moonshine batch. He even named his mash Blackbeard. Course he was caught a bunch of times and they’d smash his still every time but he’d be back up and running within a month of getting out of jail. Mama always claimed he wasn’t really our people because he was adopted.
