I didn't realize that France, Italy, and Austria are the most socialistic countries economically, outpacing the Scandinavian countries.

America is probably one of the most generous mixed-economy socialist states. It relies on private industry but much of it is funded by the government.
In my state about 30% of spending is via government spending, and for lower socioeconomic households most of their spending comes via government sources. This is reflected in our top industries, which are healthcare, military & defence contractors, and grocery stores/food producers. Healthcare is over half government provided and groceries/food about 20%.
Despite this nobody really talks about it much.
