And those are frankly not compelling at all to me...even as one who is sympathetic to their traditions. As soon as you get pope's excommunicating eachother it throws major questions into the works.

The Holdeman church would be better off just rejecting that asap.
My folks would consider you one of those people who are contrary all day long.
I say getting back to the Bible and staying focused on living the Bible’s teachings and letting God deal with other folks is the most sane way to keep our eyes on Jesus.

The Holdeman church and people are not interested in becoming BMA, and most of them would consider BMA’s practice to be apostate.

I wouldnt advocate for them to become BMA. I would advocate they drop one true church doctrine.

Then what would you answer be to Holdemans who don’t want to embrace the problems of drift, losing young people to less conservative groups, and endless church splits?

We don’t have those problems and don’t want them.

Do you feel like the one true church doctrine prevents those things?

I have no doubt that if the Holdeman church were to drop the OTC, it would be a mere matter of time before a chunk would leave for more liberal churches, and soon after that, the church would experience a lot of the problems that the rest of Anabaptist church suffer from regarding splits, random liberalization, etc.
It is my belief that their OTC doctrine is carrying a huge amount of “unity” and stability on its shoulders.

So basically I largely agree with JohnH here regatding what miggt happen.
Yet I do think it is a false doctrine, and so I don’t think it is right to make this bargain, to accept a false premise in exchange for stable, auto pilot growth.

Until the pressure builds and there is a massive rupture like the 70's...

There wasn’t a “massive rupture”. People that didn’t want to follow biblical doctrines and practice decided to leave. Such people continue to do so today.

The most common single reason people leave is they don’t believe in the covering anymore and don’t want to be told to practice it. I mean, what do you think should happen with such people?

I think it is a biblical doctrine necessary for proper church discipline and order.
