I think it actually says it well. "MAGA" evangelicals. We can drop the Christian.

As it stands, statues of politicians are not exactly a new thing in America. There is usually some kind of ceremony when one is officially unveiled, and local dignitaries and clergy often attend.
We also have engraved likenesses of Presidents on almost all of our money. Exceptions would be the $1 coin with an artist’s impression of a woman, a $1 coin with an anti-alcohol activist, and some commemorative quarters.
I have yet to see any complaints from Anabaptists or others lodged about receiving such money.

The statue, Don Colossus, is apparently quite real, as is the dedication ceremony led by Mark Burns, who calls himself a "Spiritual Diplomat."

I would respect a position against any statutes of any human likenesses at all, politicians or otherwise. I don't have much respect for people who are anti-statute, but only of people they don't like.
One can make non-spiritual, secular arguments that (for example) you only want statues of deceased people (so Lincoln Memorial is OK, but this statute is not), or that you only want winners of wars (so Lincoln or a gigantic statue of Ulysses S. Grant is OK, since they won a war, but a statute of Robert E. Lee is not okay since he lost). But that has precious little at all to do with any kind of reasoning we would make as Anabaptists. I think that, generally speaking, Anabaptists would agree we shouldn't prefer to have statues of military commanders who win wars over losers.

Well unless I can touch it in person, I'll hold onto my skepticism. There's a lot of trolls rolling around the internet.ohio jones wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 10:47 amThe statue, Don Colossus, is apparently quite real, as is the dedication ceremony led by Mark Burns, who calls himself a "Spiritual Diplomat."

The pearl-clutching about this is absurd. Do you have a stance against the Lincoln Memorial or the Ulysses S. Grant statute?joshuabgood wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 11:41 am Some one said there were 3 boys that were arrested for not participating. *ok that was ai*

Re: Christian leaders honor golden statue of Trump
Maybe the concern is more about the who dedicated and blessed it. There are statues of folks all over, fine not my thing but it does hit me as edging awfully close to a 'form of worship' of our president. And I DID NOT say worship. But these evangelical folks are clearly flirting with the way they are honoring a man.
