So I don’t know if anybody would actually straight up say we are supposed to hate Muslims, but I do think that it is not uncommon to see, although most often (from what I’ve seen) from Christians that barely attend church.
Right. There’s a need to know their agenda, they do have one (if you listen to the testimonies of former Muslims) that is not the same thing as hating them.
Is not hating the standard Jesus raises?
The standard Jesus raises is not hating our persecutors, but also fleeing from them.

I think “Islamophobia” began after 9/11. That is more hatred either for Muslims but there was a rise in fear of them. Especially hearing about the sleeper cells in America. When my son went back to Middle East after 9/11- as I was watching the horrid news those days of beheadings by radical Muslims- innocent lives, I remember one journalist they beheaded with a butter knife & publicized the video- I k ew of people that watched it in horror. These kinds of stories may have caused hatred or fear, I just don’t hear Christians saying they hate Muslims. I also don’t know of Christians believing anyone is beyond being reached with the Gospel, descendants of Ishmael or not- that’s just strange.

Wife: yes, that was a first for me. There might be others out there that believe like that, but she also spent time in a denomination that some view as a cult. I don’t know if she still believes like that or not. I don’t generally get in those conversations.

I've found it interesting when people cite something that was literally a millenium ago.

I also find it interesting contrasted against what the Muslim world was doing, which was basically engaging in endless wars of conquest.
It didn't end there. Just recently, we promised to bomb Persia back into the stone age, eliminating their civilization for 100 years. In between, we have done plenty along those lines. The whole history of American involvement in the Middle East, the Iraq war ... all of this often pitched in religious terms, "good versus evil".

Or Gaza, where Palestinian lives do not have the same value as Israeli lives.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

I want everyone to understand that this is not "what Christians do" or "how Christians treat Muslims", but from their perspective, that's what these things often look like.

And sometimes people are doing these things in our name. Some people even use religious war framing.

None of this has anything to do with the Crusades, but I suppose we could bring up Arafat’s endless terrorism campaigns.

i agree, 9-11 changed things.
many had no idea at all the U.S. wasn’t loved by all. a “coming of age” moment for many.
the dominant political narrative rushed to defend Muslims, to normalize them in western culture, populations, political office.

the spectacular bloody displays of beheadings on beaches and normalized knife/blade attacks were part of it.
in western culture, firearms had replaced blades as weapons of choice.
https://workingtheflame.com/middle-eastern-swords/

long before 9-11, i vaguely remember hearing a reference, something to the effect that westerners preferred firearms, having become squeamish about both the intimacy required of blade weapons, AND the messy bloodshed involved. blades were considered Medieval and crude.

it’s all returned, not just in the U.S.
every child knows about beheadings again, not just in context of old historical accounts.
beheadings were something that happened, “no one” would do.

other “Medieval” ways i didn’t foresee returning are open sewage in streets, lack of clean water for personal hygiene, compromised medical and vaccination records .. pridefully riskng public health+safety for PC purposes rather than prioritizing public health+safety.

This creates a literal petri dish for widespread disease. Playing with bacterial fire.

Mixing cultures successfully requires care and diplomacy. On some levels it may not ever be accomplished.
i expect i would have a hard time moving to southern U.S.
Many on forum have described problems they’ve encountered trying to join Anabaptist communities. And vice versa.

It’s entirely possible to not wish harm on others, or even love them as Jesus tells us, without adapting to all habits and beliefs.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Agreed.

Was Mohammed’s conquest of Arab tribes “what Muslims do”? That’s a rather key difference between Mohammed and Jesus.
