How many Iranians have the USA assassinated?
Regime leaders or ordinary citizens?

Most of the regime leaders were assassinated by Israeli forces.
School girls?
Words have actual definitions. I would hope that with your level of education you know the definition of assassinate.

I keep hearing this from Iranians.
How many Iranians have the USA assassinated?
How many deaths prevented by going doing so? Why were Irsnusns around the world celebrating and holding up signs thanking Trump? Why were the Iranians that I’ve watched interviews on television that escaped from Iran praising President Trump for what he is doing? You try living under that kind of regime if it’s so easy for you to not understand how hard it would be. So sad

I am not sure, in the end, there is a meaningful distinction between assassinate and just plain killed. The gods of war dont really care about the difference, and I am not sure the mothers do either.

I do understand the difference as a etymology exercise.

There is a quite meaningful distinction between the two.

Saying Trump saved 8 women from being assassinated seems a nontypical way of using the word. I am thankful that Iran is no longer planning on killing these women. I think Iran would likely have used language like execute or capital punishment, also I think mostly meaningless distinctions. Killing people who are made in the image of God isnt Christlike no matter what words one dresses it up with, assassination, execution, killing, collateral damage, etc.

The distinctions are still meaningful. The fact killing people is bad doesn’t mean there aren’t different manners of killing people for different reasons.

They're just as dead whether they are assassinated or just plain killed, but the difference in meaning is not just an etymology exercise. The words mean different things to us.

Valerie used the word "assassinate" because she wanted a word that would stir up stronger feelings than "kill" - because the two words mean different things. I think she knew that "assassinate" was not an accurate word to use, but she used it anyway. I know that you were fully aware that the school girls were almost certainly not assassinated by the US, but you used the word anyway. I think that such intentional misuse of words harms good conversation.

Perhaps the words should stir up the same feelings in us. That is the point I was trying to make. Assassinate perhaps shouldn't feel better or worse than *kill.* It is killing. And the categories we invent as humanity to stylize killing people (assassinate, execute, etc) made in the image of God with the potential for redemption, perhaps lowers the discourse from an ethical perspective founded in the message of Jesus.

Assuming assassination is *worse* than execution or killing or whatever perhaps obfuscates the point and the message of the Prince of Peace.

I would generally say that a police officer who ends up having to take out a violent gunman trying to shoot up a school is engaging in a kind of killing that I find significantly less offensive than, say, a girls’ school being collateral damage in a war.

I can understand that sentiment.
