Attitude towards apostasy

What is your attitude towards someone who apostasies from your church? Betrayal? Sadness? Happy?

Specifically an apostate who was born and raised in the setting. Im curious to know

I'm sad when a person leaves or compromises on the historic Christian faith. Not sure what you are thinking of when you say, "apostasies from your church".

Sadness. Always. It is possible, of course, that a person can 'grow up in the church' and never have a personal relationship with God. I think about this more in cases where someone DIDN'T 'grow up in the church', but came to Christ later in life, then somehow get to the point that they reject Christ. (A former co-worker in Bible translation of ours has done this.)

I would echo Ernie's question. Apostasy is a term typically used in the sense of leaving/rejecting a faith system, not a denomination in particular. Is that how you meant it, or are you asking how we feel when somebody rejects/leaves our particular church group/culture?

If by apostasy, you mean someone who totally rejects the Christian faith, it would definitely be an attitude of extreme sadness. In no case would anyone be happy about it.

When someone falls away from the true faith, I feel a deep burden for the lost soul. When it happens in my own congregation it usually means tears and an evening of sadness when it is finally time to formally recognise the spiritual death that has occurred... followed by remembering to pray for a miracle for that person whenever they are on my mind.

I guess it isn't a huge difference to me whether they were born and raised in the setting, or were a convert later in life.
