With a legal separation it’s not like you’re dying the spouse, they are simply setting it up. What would you recommend if the wife doesn’t receive support voluntarily. A marriage is a “legal” institution.

if Spouse A keeps hitting Spouse B for no reason
Does it make a difference if there is a "reason?"

I don't think a Christian should file lawsuits to try to compel the state to use force against someone else for the Christian's own financial gain.

Does it make a difference to you if I say "for no reason"?

What point are you trying to make here? Do you have something meaningful to contribute to the discussion?

It doesn't seem to me that there is ever a "reason" to hit a spouse. In more radically Christian conservative corners of the internet, and not so long ago in the USA, it was understood that part of male leadership meant *disciplining* one's wife. There are still cultures, and religions, that affirm this.

So I think clarifying that point might be worthwhile. To some it may sound like if spouses are hit for a "reason" the calculus changes in some way with regard to separation. In my view, any hitting, necessitates immediate separation for the person safety of the spouse.

That's not the topic of discussion here, and I put forth a hypothetical so no reasonable person would have any doubt about the difficulty of the situation. I also was quite careful to say Spouse A and Spouse B, in order to include a hypothetical of a wife who hits her husband for no reason.

If you want to go complain about the thing you said above, perhaps you could start a separate thread to talk about it; I am not aware of any such thing existing in my own Anabaptist circles and I think it is ridiculous to bring it up here.

Man, considering how abrasive your own comments often are, you certainly have a thin skin.

It seemed pertinent to the topic to me. The question being, when should a wife leave her husband. I would suggest that any hitting (with or without a "reason") necessitates the wife (or husband) leaving immediately.
