I wonder if he intends to contribute at a higher rate to the Red Cross?

Wife: Maybe this is just me being fussy, but I don’t really like Jesus being depicted in memes in general, because it just seems flippant. Same with jokes about Him or God, like one I’m thinking about from The Far Side.
I find it really sad that Jesus/the Bible is a tool that just gets weaponized in the name of politics on both sides. it reminds me of a sermon I heard a while back and the statement, “God is so red, God is so blue, it’s amazing how often He agrees with you.”

Me too. I remember reading about the concept of iconoclasm in school and could never understand what would compel someone to break an art piece about a significant person. Now as ive gotten older I can see how imposing a ban on depicting someone in art can keep it holy and pure. Most art of Jesus ive seen is childish, and almost never keeps a reverent tone.Soloist wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 6:46 pm Wife: Maybe this is just me being fussy, but I don’t really like Jesus being depicted in memes in general, because it just seems flippant. I understand this and sympathize, but at the same time I like that many cultures and ethnicities see Jesus as their own. I like Ebo Jesus, Korean Jesus, Yorba Jesus, Hispanic Jesus, Japanese Jesus, Native American Jesus, Samoan Jesus and blonde European Jesus.Anthony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 7:38 pmMe too. Is it necessary to break the 2nd commandment to do that, though?barnhart wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:30 pm I understand this and sympathize, but at the same time I like that many cultures and ethnicities see Jesus as their own. No, but I don't think that Christians really want to find themselves doing these things:mike wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2026 8:31 pmDo you keep the 4th commandment?JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:35 pmIs it necessary to break the 2nd commandment to do that, though?barnhart wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:30 pm I understand this and sympathize, but at the same time I like that many cultures and ethnicities see Jesus as their own. But I guess if some people feel as Christians that they can forge idols, well, go right ahead then. I don't think Jesus wants us creating images, statues, graven images, or likenesses of him.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
