You mean like them, seizing power of the government and burning us at the stake?
Yes in the 1500s, in 2026 the landscape has shifted and they would probably find substantially more kinship with conservative anabaptists than almost anyone in the US.
They regard us as barely saved, if saved at all.
Im just having a hard time considering all that Doug Wilson talks about, that any of his members or he himself would balk at plain anabaptists. Technically I also think his theology is terrible and spiritually ruinous but I agree with him on most important issues. There is a kind of temporary conservative ecumenicism that most right leaning Christians adhere to. Considering the state of Christianity in 2026

That’s a good way to put it.

I can find a certain kind of fellowship based on shared feelings about the surrounding non-Christian culture and other things going on with, for example, my Greek Catholic friends. The fact they were / are all solidly Democrats (some of them holding office back when the county was a purple county) seems almost irrelevant, particularly when paired with how divorced the “temporary conservative Christian ecumenism” is compared to what passes for conservative politics these days.

It cuts across certain Greek Catholic circles to Tridentine Latin Mass communities to Apostolic Pentecostals to the local Global Methodists who departed the UMC to conservative and Old Order Amish and Mennonites to conservative homeschoolers who aren’t currently attending church at all to conservative Reformed Baptists to Bethel type Charismatics to even Mormons.

If they use the “Three Forms of Unity “ as their statement of faith, there is a specific anathema directed towards us therein.

Anabaptism is heresy to them...they will statw that when directly asked. That said, there are a portion of CAs who have joined Doug's church, or other CREC churches, and even more who are sympathetic.

In my many interactions with the highly reformed, for them, job one is to convert us. Much easier to fill your church that way. The unbelievers take too much time.

In what ways do they have "substantial kinship with conservative Anabaptists"?

They are Republican in their politics. (CA's are also on a scale of 90/10 across the very plain to the fundamentalist plain - even if they don't vote - all their language is sympathetic and affirming to Republican mores). They have a dim view of the "welfare" states. They are very suspicious of immigration patterns/trends. They are very traditional regarding gender *roles.* They are authoritarian in their approach to governance. They are insular and fairly exclusionist.

I dont spend much time looking at the political trends in the Anabaptist world. So I'm here to learn in regards to the left vs right demographics of the CA.

But I would say that all the current most popular CA Anabaptist podcast/ Youtube presence (Anabaptist perspectives, Sound Faith, FOTW, Strength to Strength, etc), definitely voice their suspicions of anything that's right-leaning/ Republican. I think there is a current trend amongst some CA's that is trying to pull our kind away from what they perceive as a "alt-right" Republican propaganda via online influence. Their assumption might be a correct, I don't know, but I dont hear much opposition of anything the Left does from these online formats.

Perhaps the silent majority amongst the plain Anabaptist is "praying-republican"...but the loudest on the internet are definitely voicing their opinion in the opposite direction. If you know of a Anabaptist presence online that is pro-Republican leaning, I would like to hear who it is...
