Oil Prices, Oil Flows, and the War with Iran

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Oh, that one's easy. The more you bomb, the more pieces you have. People misunderstood him, as usual. He said "I am the candidate of pieces. I love pieces! You know, most people don't know this, but I've always been for pieces. If you elect me as president, we'll have so many pieces you'll be tired of pieces. You'll say 'Please, Mr. President, no more pieces. We have to much pieces!' "
I know for myself him being a president of peace had nothing at all to do with me voting for him.
Danger is doing exactly what he was voted in to do.
Iran regime was horrible to its own people if you want to talk who cares the most about Iranians .

I miss Paul Harvey. At least he would tell us the Rest of the Story instead of berating people for not already knowing it.

Some of us do in fact have been following the story, but just don’t agree with Valerie’s interpretation of it. At this point, not only are Iranians having to deal with a brutal, authoritarian regime, they also have to deal with widespread missile attacks from Israel and the US. Are the deaths of civilians by the US more morally justifiable than by Iran?

In this thread, Valerie invoked Just War Theory. Augustine cared about civilian casualties, arguing for proportionate action and the protection of the innocents. Is the US doing this, or are they being sloppy, such as the missile strike against the girls’ school?

One thing that bothers me about Trump’s call for Iranians to rise up and overthrow the government is that while it sounds noble, it’s a death sentence. Is there an opposition in Iran organized enough and large enough to actually overthrow the government? What would happen to civilians if they did rise up? Does Trump have any actual idea of what’s going on in Iranian society?

It’s not berating if people choose to not listen. So if they don’t then probably can affect viewpoints. It’s a matter of choice.

Why were Iranians around the world celebrating when many their regime was taken down.
We cannot imagine what they went through because we live in freedom.
Yes he (Trump) knows what’s been going on and so do a lot of others-
Other presidents have talked about it as well.
We cannot imagine and all do see things through different lenses.

This would be a good book for you and your students to read:

Would you apply the same rubric to Ukrainians who find themselves occupied by Russia?

That’s not the rubric I raised. I’m asking whether the US and Israel are meeting the Just War standards being claimed for them.

I agree that the Iranian regime is brutal and oppressed its own people. I also believe that setting fire to a powder keg has unintended consequences that could end up being worse than the old regime.

This war isn’t over. It’s just beginning. History shows over and over again that removing a tyrant is the easy part. What comes afterwards is hard.

A major reason why the 1979 Islamic Revolution happened was because a CIA sponsored coup ended Iranian democracy in 1953 and installed the Shah. Toppling Saddam Hussein gave space for ISIS. After twenty years of war, the Taliban still run Afghanistan.

How can we assume that the war against Iran is going to lead to completely different results?

The old regime isn’t gone. Iranians around the world were able to celebrate the killing of Khamenei because they weren’t in Iran. They don’t have to live with the consequences. There are reports that the regime is still brutally suppressing any signs of disagreement with the regime.

There are reasons why past Presidents didn’t invade Iran. The Trump administration is being reckless.

Like most conservative Anabaptists, I don’t care about “just war” theory or any of the other questionable ideas Augustine came up with.
