When we were young, my younger sis had a terrifying emergency appendectomy.
We shared a small dark space in the unfinished basement of our small house with too many people.
We didn’t mind, we were good, loving family, we noticed other people, like at school, seemed to mind.

One late night she began crying in awful pain. Our mother was “on it”.

Hospital.
i was anxious to see her asap, we were at the hospital, i wasn’t allowed in to see her after surgery.
i was told, “you’ll make her laugh!” what?! i can’t make her laugh?! what has the world come to?!

i promised promised promised i wouldn’t make her laugh.
they let me in.

uhhh. the moment she spotted me in the door she began to laugh. she looked so sweet in that grand hospital bed.
i was immediately removed.

i got to see her tho. for a moment. decades later, i remember.

i hope Robert gets to chuckle at least a little without pain.
