I have not fact checked this, but a German podcast I listened to claimed that Reza Pahlavi has never renounced any of his father's actions. If true, that's a bad sign.ohio jones wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 1:52 pmAnd now Reza Pahlavi, the Shah's son, is making the case (in term$ that are $ure to be attractive to Trump) that he should be the next leader. Anything the US does without broad support from the Iranian people (and perhaps even with that support) is going to plant the seeds of future conflict.Szdfan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 9:51 amOf course, part of the irony is that one of the dynamics that fueled the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran was anger over US involvement in a 1953 CIA backed-coup that installed the Shah and authoritarian rule. I’m not sure why things should go differently this time.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

I imagine this will produce results similar to the last two or three times the US has done something similar. Is it worthwhile? Does the good outweigh the bad? I wonder... Can the US culturally bear the strain of another 20 year involvement, this could be more damaging to us than we think it will be.Bootstrap wrote:... I don’t think it’s realistic to assume that ordinary Iranians can simply organize, overcome the Revolutionary Guard, and peacefully take over the government. And if we look at Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, etc., what happened in those places is certainly one likely outcome here. War is chaotic, we simply do not know what will happen, but history gives us lots of examples of things that are reasonably likely to happen.
In general, do you believe that people and nations bear moral responsibility for the result of what they do? I think that's what the Pottery Barn principle means.

It appears the GCC is going to take a very active role in how this is handled going forward. These are the right people to handle it - it’s their back yard, and the GCC has proven itself able to find things to do besides pick fights and lob missiles and try to develop nuclear arms.

Who did I criticize who suffered horrid deaths under a very evil regime?
Like I said, you are welcome to take up your case with Him.

I guess they figure it is survival of the fittest?
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks...
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you sit back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul...

i’d like to know more about this.JohnH wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 5:35 pm It appears the GCC is going to take a very active role in how this is handled going forward. it appears to me President T has unusual relationships with Middle East leaders, perhaps due to decades of private business before he was president? (i have no idea, i’ve wondered, after his ME visit/warm welcome last year).
T was an international businessman before politics.
This requires a level of sophistication many are unwilling to consider or acknowledge.
i see an unusual man.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

This doesn’t really have anything to do with T.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 10:05 pmi’d like to know more about this.JohnH wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 5:35 pm It appears the GCC is going to take a very active role in how this is handled going forward. Iran lobbed missiles at every GCC country. The GCC countries have been upset with Iran for a long time but restrained from taking any action. Now they have a cause for action.

I’m seeing multiple reports that the US has launched missile attacks on Iran, including Tomahawk missiles. I don’t believe the argument that the US is only doing missile defense and only Israel is attacking Iran is correct.JohnH wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 4:00 pmThe U.S. has not created the conditions for chaotic violence. The U.S. did catch return fire with a few casualties when Iran decided to simply fire missiles at random countries ranging from Oman to Qatar to Abu Dhabi & Dubai in the UAE to Saudi Arabia.
I don't think the U.S. has much of a responsibility to "Iran" at all. The U.S. has been putting pressure on Israel for a long time not to attack Iran. The U.S. let off on that pressure. I do not see how this is an American responsibility at all.In general, do you believe that people and nations bear moral responsibility for the result of what they do?

Here is US Central Command itself posting on X that they are attacking Iran —U.S. Central Command said Sunday afternoon that it has struck more than 1,000 targets in Iran in two days of operations, including ships, submarines, missile sites, communications links, and the command-and-control centers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Where are you getting information that the US hasn’t launched attacks against Iran?

None of these intelligence that are being interviewed are implying this OJ. They are giving the 47 year history here of a wicked regime of an oppressed people and pointing out how many of our own have been killed. The information being shared these past couple days is astounding ,ohio jones wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 11:25 pmIt has quite a bit to do with the price of T in China. Texas tea, that is.
Chanting Death to America and Death to Israel conveys a leadership in Iran with plans.
What’s concerning and been brought up is how many with ill intent snuck in for the four years of open borders. We’ve been warned about sleeper cells & lone attackers like the one in Austin TX this morning who killed 2 , wounded 14 and was wearing a “Prophet of Allah” sweatshirt.
