Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

“We” don’t need to replace it. The Iranian people certainly can do so though, and have already demonstrated plenty of resolve to do so.
How well did that go in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Your ancestors fled for safety to America yet you criticize a people who have suffered horrid deaths under a very evil regime-
My Creator the Scriptures say is a God of War, if we make it through till the time of Revelations, just watch Him.
One of the things my ancestors fled was compulsory military service.
That’s fine. I’m glad they enjoyed living in a free country that does cost others for it to remain so. Volunteers.
I can recognize that others volunteer to serve without feeling morally obligated to support every use of military force. Those aren’t the same thing.

Some very sincere believers I respect in many ways have done this, however had they asked my advice I would have urged them not to do it.

Yet they would feel insulted & discouraged by the attitudes here while they are willing to lay down their own lives that others might live. I do t expect to understand it all but I’ve been listening to those who are explaining it well as it is their, not our, area of expertise.
Certainly praying rather than criticizing the Lord would see as a better use of time. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one availed much. Amen?

God is over war uses it just as he uses famine, earthquake and disease to suit his purposes, but he is continually calling those who have an ear to hear out of war and the systems, cultures and obligations that bind people to war.

I also claim spiritual ancestors in the first century who remembered the voice of Jesus and fled Jerusalem when Rome moved in.

I’m unaware of Dubai or Qatar lobbing random missiles at Iran.
They don’t have to. The US is doing it for them.
Are you sure it was the U.S. doing it?

Last I checked, Israel conducted the airstrikes against Iran. The U.S. has mostly conducted missile defence for places like Qatar, although it’s not 100% effective.

I join you in praying for God's will on earth to the same extent as it expressed in heaven.

I have forebears who were persecuted here in the US for their refusal to serve in the military. During WWI, one of my Great-Great Uncles was forced to boot camp and tortured. My grandmother was expelled from public school in the 1920s for refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were Mennonites who were imprisoned at Fort Leavenworth for refusing to enlist. Others faced mob violence for refusing to buy war bonds.

That history shapes how I understand conscience and war. For some of us here, dissent isn’t disrespect. It’s inheritance and faith.

Agreed. But I don’t think or agree with all Anabaptist perspective that God sees servants of their country as evil anymore than those He sent to war as evil. I realize I agree more with other Protestants that don’t see those willing to lay down their lives for others as evil hearted. I’ve known too many oetsonally, some with great faith (like my brother who served, later as a chaplain, and now a pastor). Jerusalem, God was allowing to be destroyed- it was good His people fled at the same time early Christians didn’t always fled from persecution either nor did early Anabaptists I realize. Just difference of interpretations.

It’s still alliance involvement. When US forces operate from and defend bases in the region while supporting Israeli strikes, it becomes difficult to treat these as entirely separate.
