Prophetically speaking Jim, since Scripture takes us to the end when Christ returns, there is no mention of catastrophic global warming but some God ordained catastrophic situations, do you really see where climate change will be a threat?
Thanks for a thoughtful question.
I don't know if Jesus will return tomorrow or in a thousand years. I pray, "Come quickly", but people have prayed that since the first century. Catastrophic global warming (catastrophic in geological terms, meaning over decades or centuries, rather than millennia) is not expected to be the end of humanity, but the suffering and deaths of a significant portion of the human population. I do not rely on my or anyone's imperfect understanding of Biblical prophecy to predict the results of global warming.
What a counterintuitive twist in the climate story.
The Sahara Desert of all places has shrunk by about 8% since the 1980s thanks to rising CO₂ levels fueling a remarkable global green renaissance.
Data from NASA’s AVHRR and MODIS instruments show that 25% to 50% of Earth's vegetated lands have become significantly greener, an area equivalent to roughly twice the continental United States.
CO₂ fertilization drove around 70% of this boom, making plants more efficient with water by reducing the time stomata (leaf pores) stay open, which in turn cuts water loss and boosts drought resistance.
This has allowed vegetation to reclaim arid edges in places like the Sahel (the Sahara's southern fringe), the Middle East and Australia's outback. The Sahara alone had lost around 8% of its desert, equivalent to over 700,000 km² of added green cover and pushing back the barren sand wastes in formerly inhospitable zones.
Atmospheric CO₂ now hovers around 430 ppm (early 2026 levels) enabling plants to thrive where they once couldn't. While climate change brings serious challenges, this greening shows a clear, measurable benefit from higher CO₂: and a greener, more resilient planet in many dry regions.

Not quite "BREAKING". This Smithsonian-University of Arizona study being referred to was released in September 2024.

From a conservation perspective, the most striking part is how fast we’re changing things now. Earth has been hotter before, yes. But those shifts played out over hundreds of thousands or even millions of years. We’re compressing changes that took eons into just a few centuries. That speed is what makes today’s climate crisis so risky.
The press release accompanying the study puts it well: “Humans, and the species we share the planet with, are adapted to a cold climate. Rapidly putting us all into a warmer climate is a dangerous thing to do.”
"This research illustrates clearly that carbon dioxide is the dominant control on global temperatures across geological time," said Jessica Tierney, a paleoclimatologist at the University of Arizona and a co-author of the new paper. "When CO2 is low, the temperature is cold; when CO2 is high, the temperature is warm."
The findings also reveal that the Earth's current GMST of 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius) is cooler than Earth has been over much of the Phanerozoic. But greenhouse gas emissions caused by anthropogenic climate change are currently warming the planet at a much faster rate than even the fastest warming events of the Phanerozoic.

This is not accurate. There have been times of co2 at 20%+ and the earth was a snowball.

When we pray for an end to worldwide hunger, I can see God telling the angels, "crank up the CO₂ to reclaim desert". The new green areas consume the CO₂ and produce more O₂. It always amazes me how God created a perfect science of balance and counterbalance in the universe.

“Climate Science’s Biggest Shift In Decades: IPCC’s RCP8.5 Is Officially Dead”
The framework driving IPCC climate modeling has officially ditched the extreme scenarios as implausible. https://climatechangedispatch.com/rcp85 ... scenarios/
.. We now know that all of this is built on a foundation of sand.
What changed
The new CMIP7 ScenarioMIP framework offers seven scenarios spanning a range from “VERY LOW” through “HIGH.”
The current naming convention drops the radiative-forcing target labels of the SSP era.
There is no “8.5” scenario, and no “7.0” scenario, but as I’ll show below, each scenario has a radiative-forcing level in 2100.
I ran the available new scenarios (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and VERY LOW) through the FaIR-calibrated and constrained ensemble that Sanderson and Smith (2025) used to characterize the CMIP7 set (FaIR v. 2.2.0 as described in their README file).
I then ran each of the five tier-1 SSPs through the same emulator with identical parameters to ensure that the results are apples-to-apples. The full methodology, data, and code are in the appendix to this post.
