Wife: also, polyester is absolutely horrible to wear to a bonfire or when tending the fireplace. Not saying I’m speaking from experience or anything like that… :?
Someone's brush fire got away down in Brazil, at the mission center, and we were all fighting fire. I was wearing a shirt with lots of polyester in it, and an ember fell on my shoulder, and melted the fabric to my skin. But a burn hole in polyester also doesn't unravel, either.
Wife: the school teacher told the children a story about being at a wedding, and the bride’s dress melting.

I have became very strict with my children about what dresses to wear when we’re burning, etc., because you can have a huge hole melted in your dress without you even noticing it. and of course, it burns onto skin if it gets the chance.
In the late 1800's there were multiple events of stage actresses brushing crinoline costumes against gas lights and busting into flames. Several died, at one event six at once.

Leafing aside the first attempt at clothing, leather is a more ancient material than fiber-based cloth.
I would agree it's an excellent material for a variety of purposes. It is actually not expensive at all, either. It does take a bit of skill to work with though.

It's very important to plan ahead what you wear when planning a house fire.

So what do the "natural" people do for shoes?

Shoes and boots have long been made out of things like rubber, leather, and cotton and wool on the inside.

It is amazing how much people have been indoctrinated to think the only way they can have clothes to wear is plastic clothes made overseas in slavery-type conditions, that then wear out very quickly and have to constantly be replaced.

So do you wear shoes with no dyes, or synthetic materials?

I have a pair my wife got at a thrift store for $20 that I use for rough work; an expensive pair of Hokas I bought at someone else's recommendation (which I wouldn't recommend); some old leather style shoes for church; and then nice rubber Honeywell boots. Pretty sure they all have some synthetics in them.

It's possible to say something is a good idea when unable to practice it perfectly. I would say that for future purchases I plan to be focused on something that will be durable and last a long time, which modern, synthetic-based shoes don't - they are designed to wear out quickly so you have to buy replacements.

Do I see a cobbler apprenticeship in your future?
