Price of eggs in 2026
Price of eggs in 2026
The difference a year makes. My wholesale cost on large white eggs next week is $.92/dz and medium are $.53/dz. At that last price, they are losing money. That's $7.95/case which isn't much more than the cost of the cardboard box and the cartons. Hopefully the packers saved up a little cash from 2025.

I don’t know all the intricacies, but it reminds me very much of when Farmers switch from Grass Seed to growing wheat. Then flooding the market with wheat and the prices drop while the grass seed they left behind, has skyrocketed in price due to lack of production.mike wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 8:58 am The difference a year makes. Re: Price of eggs in 2026
Large eggs have dropped another $.24 to $.68/dz. this week. Last year on this exact day they were $5.82/dz and by the end of January 2025 they were over $7. A difference of 10X. Unbelievable. My brother in law knows of growers in his state (Indiana) where they are simply dumping their eggs.mike wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 8:58 am The difference a year makes. If we could survive on these 3 items we could really eat inexpensively!
Eggs have zinc, it’s cold & flu season. Eat eggs!

You actually can survive in just milk and potatoes.Valerie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:35 amMy store is selling Xtra large for $1.79.mike wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:21 amLarge eggs have dropped another $.24 to $.68/dz. this week. What is your retail price? Wal-Mart in our area is still at 1.97.mike wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:21 amLarge eggs have dropped another $.24 to $.68/dz. this week. A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Walmart seems to refuse to drop below $1.97 in our area. Other stores are cheaper.

Anyone hear about the new food pyramid by this administrations Health Dept?
When customers talk about the price of eggs, I tend to bring up how people in that business don’t get paid well, think of all the labor & shipping going into egg production.
Would complaining customers wish to live on that income?

It’s complete nutrition, so it could be indefinite. You can actually survive solely on milk and that used to be the diet in Ireland around 1,000 years ago, which made it easy for them to repel invaders whose approach was to burn down crops.
I did hear about the one food triangle right here in MN.

We sell them in 15 dz. cases, and by the dozen with a single dozen price and buy 4 or more price. Next week's price will likely be in the neighborhood of $15/case, $1.19/dz. and $1.09/dz. for 4 or more.Ernie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:42 amWhat is your retail price? Eggs are one of those few items we price on profit/case rather than % margin because of the wild price fluctuations. So the margins are much higher when the price is low like this.
