It is noted that the leading narrative for war justification is now oil, instead of drugs.
President Donald Trump demanded Wednesday that Venezuela return assets that it seized from U.S. oil companies years ago, justifying anew his announcement of a “blockade” against oil tankers traveling to or from the South American country that face American sanctions.

Trump cited the lost U.S. investments in Venezuela when asked about his newest tactic in a pressure campaign against leader Nicolás Maduro, suggesting his administration's moves are at least somewhat motivated by disputes over oil investments, along with accusations of drug trafficking. Some sanctioned tankers already are diverting away from Venezuela.

"We’re not going to be letting anybody going through who shouldn’t be going through,” Trump told reporters. “You remember they took all of our energy rights. They took all of our oil not that long ago. And we want it back. They took it — they illegally took it.”

I wonder how we would react if another country claimed to own the rights to the oil in the United States, threatening us with military action.

How do you think they expect Venezuela to respond? Usually, when you threaten a country in ways that seem unjust, it doesn't win their hearts and minds or make them want to cooperate.

What's the death toll so far? I guess the men they killed on fishing boats were the wrong target, since it's apparently about oil after all? Whether or not they were guilty of anything?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Venezuela has options and all of them are bad. No actionable allies, Russia and China are too far away to do more then a token response,
Brazil hedging their bets reinforcing the border and has not exactly been a loyal ally to Venezuela, despite their willingness to mediate between the US and Venezuela.
Bolivia has all but openly sided with the US.
Cuba refused to commit publicly to military force which naturally they’re not stupid…
Nicaragua isn’t going to do anything.
Meanwhile, they’re facing rebellion within their own cities from CIA operatives and by nationalists loyal to the other presidential candidate.
A president who is getting pushed into the corner on all sides, but even if somehow he relinquished power, he’s seen what happens to other dictators…
I don’t know exactly what they’re going to do, but all their options are very bad for both the president and the average Venezuelan.

2 things can be true at once. President Trump multitasks like no one else i’m aware.

i’m not jumping to a conclusion about anything - but - he’s got my attention about the seriousness of illegal drugs+cartels
as no other admin has.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

I guess one outcome might be that small weak countries that turn to Communism, might think twice about nationalizing American business assets.

Boot, what’s your position on seizure of oil tankers containing Russian oil, under the legal justification of sanctions against Russia?

I asked a Venezuelan I know and he said he hopes America invades and topples Maduro.

Or they will work harder to secure more ties with an alternate superpower like Russia or China.
