I'm thinking of 1 Peter 2, where it says to honor or respect everyone, even the emperor. Maybe not the culture, but the people.

I really don't think you can draw from the New Testament that it somehow teaches against using a phrase like "pearl clutching" in reference to people making poor parenting decisions.

It is a poor parenting decision to walk w your child to school??? And your child will be dredging the Mississippi at 12? Why not at 8?JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 5:03 pmI really don't think you can draw from the New Testament that it somehow teaches against using a phrase like "pearl clutching" in reference to people making poor parenting decisions.

... what, exactly, is the risk of pedophiles these days when walking to school?

It's poor parenting to over-shelter one's children from doing very normal things like "walking places" whilst simultaneously giving them things like smartphones at age 8.Southerner wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 5:48 pm It is a poor parenting decision to walk w your child to school??? Re: Mary’s Maturity
When my son was a toddler, the movie “Adam” came out. So early 80s. Adam was the son who was abducted while with his mom in Sears(?) and they found that poor child killed. The father is the one who started the series “Americas Most Wanted” and all stores have a “code Adam” protocol. There were other widespread abductions happening and it was sad but true, any parent that let their children out to play without supervision was seen as neglectful. Foolish. It’s sad because it was not the way we wanted our children to live, but the reality was children were being abducted and killed. We’ve had stories on this forum of young women abducted. When I was 14, my friend and I were walking, and we were being chased by a car and we finally found refuge in a laundromat. It was the beginning of parents, allowing their children to watch too much TV and play video games because they couldn’t be outside with them constantly. I was there in a part of that transition of always needing to be aware where my children were. Unfortunately, it’s the world we live in. It was prophesied that evil would get worse.JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 8:50 pmIt's poor parenting to over-shelter one's children from doing very normal things like "walking places" whilst simultaneously giving them things like smartphones at age 8.Southerner wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 5:48 pm It is a poor parenting decision to walk w your child to school??? Re: Mary’s Maturity
I went through a genealogy phase in my early 20's... also will credit a great uncle who was really into it. Anyway, I discovered that I am a descendant of Lady Godivaohio jones wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 11:21 am Most people (better nights generally excepted) have difficulty tracing their genealogy back 200 years, let alone 2000. Perhaps those who did have that connection did not consider it "something to be used for [their] own advantage" (cf. Phil. 2:5-6 HCSB).

For some of us, genealogy is fairly easy:
National Geographic wrote: The most recent common ancestor of every European today (except for recent immigrants to the Continent) was someone who lived in Europe in the surprisingly recent past—only about 600 years ago. In other words, all Europeans alive today have among their ancestors the same man or woman who lived around 1400.
