In this case, the countries involved agreed on the borders when they became independent states in 1991. The borders of the former SSRs, last adjusted in 1954 with the transfer of Crimea, became the borders of the nations.

If Trump’s 28 point plan is what ends the war, it really shows the weakness of Europe to defend itself and its allies. They can criticize the deal all they like, but Trump can rightly claim that it is the best Ukraine can be expected to get, given its lack of ability to succeed in repelling Russia even with years of European and American aid and support. It is sad but likely inevitable.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

In the face of this horrific war that should never have happened, and the evil things that came with it, I thought today of a few things we can be thankful for. No particular order.
1. That Russia has not overrun Ukraine entirely.
2. That nuclear weapons have not been used.
3. That the aggressor has not gotten all that he wanted.
4. That the war has not developed into a wider conflict between superpowers.
5. That the war appears to be nearing its end.
Maybe you can think of a few more.

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.
