Wife: I’m just talking interracial marriage here. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with different cultures and languages, but I don’t see any reason we should treat any ethnicity differently from the others or avoid mingling. I appreciate being welcomed into a culture I wasn’t born into.Nomad wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 7:08 pm I lean towards JohnH opinion....
Nowhere do I find in scripture, the thought that all the diverse, ethnic, and national peoples are to meld into 1 national identity. Even in the last chapters of the Bible (Rev 21, 22) it always refers to "nations" in plural form...not "nation" in singular form.
Peter Gentry, in his book "Kingdom through Covenant", states his opinion that God cursed the nations for their rejection of Him at the Tower of Bable...and now (according to Gentry) is slowly reversing the curse by bringing us into 1 nation and back to pre-Babel. This didn't make sense to me because I dont find that anywhere in scripture. It seems to me that Gods plan was to put diverse nations and borders in place for the peoples, yet humanity rebelled. Borders and nations are currently antagonistic, of course, which isn't Gods design...but that doesn't mean they have to be that way.
The Church is something entirely different. Its not restricted to borders and nations or ethnic groups...I think the theonomist would like us to think otherwise. But we would have to come to something extra biblical in order to establish "one nation" in Gods plans.

I guess I didn't assume JohnH to be saying that interracial marriage or cultural/ ethnic mingling as being wrong. Maybe I misunderstood.Soloist wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 9:45 pmWife: I’m just talking interracial marriage here. Specifically, God confused the tongues of the people of earth and scattered them into different people groups around the globe, and God has continued this confusion of the languages up to this very day.
It would appear, then, that God does indeed ordain that humans on earth be organised into ethno-linguistic groups.

Re: Is Jesus for “Law & Order?”
Do you expect that to persist through eternity, or will the tongues eventually be unconfused and the original creation order restored with everyone speaking German?JohnH wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 11:13 pmSpecifically, God confused the tongues of the people of earth and scattered them into different people groups around the globe, and God has continued this confusion of the languages up to this very day.

Scriptures are filled with words of order and law, the 10 Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, and more.

None suggest rebelling against earthly government. All can be accomplished under any government, or as a prisoner or slave.
Jesus Christ empowers as no other.
No wonder He was/is a threat to kings.
^^Valerie, i’d like to know more about what you were thinking, if you see this.

In the Great Commission, Jesus defines discipleship as "teaching them to observe everything I've commanded you."
He also said, "If you love me, keep my commands." I'd say that means the stakes are pretty high!
But what commands did Jesus give? Do most church attenders even know?

When the New Jerusalem comes down from heaven on the new earth after the old has passed away I think of this passage in Revelations 22 (the entire chapter is so beautiful!)ohio jones wrote: ↑Sun Nov 02, 2025 1:08 amDo you expect that to persist through eternity, or will the tongues eventually be unconfused and the original creation order restored with everyone speaking German?JohnH wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 11:13 pmSpecifically, God confused the tongues of the people of earth and scattered them into different people groups around the globe, and God has continued this confusion of the languages up to this very day.

22 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Not sure and always wondered what is meant by “the healing of the nations” but it does convey there will be “nations” into eternity, perhaps the healing removes the confused languages & borders at that point?
Revelation 7:9 is a beautiful picture of what Spistle John saw at the throne of God:
“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,”
From that it’s hard to say if he heard different tongues in heaven or not- God confused the languages for a reason that will not be the case in the heavenly kingdom- it just doesn’t exactly tell us what language will be spoken by all.

i think it was Skyler who quoted “law to love” in his signature line. i pursued it and learned to love it, too.
