This interview might give you another viewpoint on Bonhoeffer. If you don't do Spotify, Google "Theology in the raw, Mark Thiessen, Who was Bonhoeffer."

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Something that’s always fascinated me about Bonhoeffer is when he embraced the use of force. I try not to judge someone in his shoes too harshly, but instead ask what could make me end up at the same position.

Mark was one of my seminary profs. I rented a room in his basement.Bootstrap wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 1:45 pmIs this what you are thinking of? Haven't seen it yet ...barnhart wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 12:56 pmhttps://spotify.link/5T4v6C3LCXb

Interesting. What do you think of his thesis.

I met him and talked to him at a conference last year. Bonhoeffer is a major area of study for him now.

I haven't really paid attention to it. I'll go watch the video. He was working on a biography of John Howard Yoder when I was in seminary and shifted after Yoder fell out of favor.

Re: Bonhoeffer on Christ, the Church, and Resistance
Maybe I'll spill the beans on his thesis. He suggests that there is no evidence that Bonhoeffer participated in the assassination plot. The closest evidence is he most likely introduced his brother-in-law, a known collaborator, to contacts outside Germany while traveling abroad on church work. He suggests that post war evangelicals injected him into the plot after the fact to create a more heroic profile.
