It cannot be understood.

It cannot be understood.
It's the continued fallout from 1948 and a long-running conflict that has never been resolved.

And the chance of all of that coming to an end right now is about the same as a snowball in Hades.

Yep. The cease-fire agreement is a big deal, but it's way too early to know whether it holds or really changes anything.

Is there a requirement for Hamas to disarm in the deal?

Reports are, yes.
But every agreement is dependent on the parties involved to honor their word.

Not everyone has the same definition of honor.

i don’t think the official agreement has been made public. i’m checking the White House page, so far, not seeing it.
“We will begin shortly” has been the message so far. The internet spoils us terribly for speed!

Of course there is. Part of the deal requires the complete disbandment of Hamas, actually, including that former Hamas members can't be part of future governments.

I think so. I don't know whether, in the terms of the deal, that failure to disarm would trigger a renewal of hostilities by Israel or not.

That looks like the hinge point to me. If Turkey and Qatar can enforce that, it would improve my outlook for the process. And I would be even more hopeful if the pro-settler parties would loose election and fall to I significant status.
