So you thought of the French Press as more of a drip rather than something to pore over?

Re: Christian Nationalism
To get back to a more serious flavor, latte us consider another excerpt from the Living Anabaptism podcast:
What I see him putting forward is a distinction between Dominionism* and evangelism.Reuben Sairs wrote:I think in some ways mainstream Protestantism and evangelicalism broadly as it's inherited those models and Roman Catholicism and orthodoxy and all these expressions are kind of stuck with that old Constantinian problem. They need to try to dominate society. I think one of the great things that I see that gives Anabaptism a future is that it can be a strong voice for its positions and remain a minority voice and not try to muscle the culture around through politics or just cultural bullying. It can exist peacefully...in a society while still having a firm witness in it without attempting to muscle the culture around...by cultural muscle or political muscle.
That's one of the things that really appeals to me about it especially in...our times and Christian nationalism and things that have risen up and really an assertion that the country must be Christian and Christians must impose, through the legal apparatus, their ideas. I'm not wimpy about our moral ideas or what we're saying or how it might even challenge the culture at large, but I'm not trying to put the right people in office to make other people do it. I want to make the case for Christ and see people come to it. I think that's a New Testament model. I think it's the model we've taken hold of and I think it has a future. I'm not sure some of the other expressions do have a future.... I think they'll find that their voice is dwarfed and marginalized and eventually just held in contempt because I don't know that Christians are going to be the majority and dominate. I don't think that's a New Testament picture either.
*recall the discussions in days of yore with Penguin Von who tried to champion it but downplay or deny its more extreme expressions

I think this difference between our outlooks comes down to my willingness to accept the problems of a pluralism/persuasion society and your willingness to accept the pitfalls of state succourred Christian themed society.HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 10:03 amIt’s true I have a strong aversion to French and always have, even when he was writing at National Review.barnhart wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 4:37 pmI am continually surprised by strength of your distaste for David French. His conservative credentials could hardly be stronger right up to the point of not voting for President Trump or supporting MAGA. He has spent years arguing all the way to the supreme court for religious rights and free speech, spoke out as conservative at Harvard decades before Charlie Kirk, started the first prolife club at Harvard... I find him lucid, logical and persuasive. It's hard for me to imagine how he gets under your skin. I mostly listen to his podcasts and you mostly read him, maybe that's the difference.HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 1:00 pmWhat I’ve suggested is that AW (thanks OJ) and David French have made Christian Nationalism their newest favorite hobby horse. Mr. French, could find Christian Nationalism in the instruction manual of a toaster oven. It gets tiresome and absurd.

Here, for example, is C. Peter Wagner with the opposite view:ohio jones wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:01 pm What I see him putting forward is a distinction between Dominionism and evangelism.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WboWrp-CwoWe've got to understand that Dominion mandate is another way of saying the Great Commission because when Jesus sent his disciples out he told them to go and make disciples of all nations. Now get that idea. Make disciples of what? All nations. It doesn't say in this point (it does in other places) doesn't say at that scripture to make disciples of individuals out there, it says make disciples of all nations.
If this isn't "Christian nationalism" I don't know what is.

Back to the topic I’ll admit I never really heard of Christian Nationalism as a thing before coming to this forum. In my context
-There’s patriotism.
-There’s church.
But I’ve never heard of patriotic Christians being called Christian Nationalists.
“Christian Nationalists” - it seems to me to be a label that was created to target and demonize people who are patriots and go to church. I said “it seems”. It doesn’t mean I’m right about that. It’s just the impression I get from the context of the discussion.

What do you think of the C. Peter Wagner quote from OJ several posts above where he fuses the great commission with dominance at the national level.JohnL wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 3:56 am
