The Second Coming of Jesus - Does anything else need to happen yet before he returns?

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

There might be things yet unfilled but I think it's good to allow a lot of room for prophecy to be accomplished in unexpected ways.

In the New Testament, I see us taught to be ready, and that he may come as a thief in the night. Jesus might come back tonight. He also might not come back for another 2,000 years.

Yep, I think this too. I’ve never seen a 6:00 newscast that announced fulfilled prophecies so I figure we don’t necessarily know of these fulfillment events unless we’re there.

I have changed my belief in that I believe His second advent happens at the end of the Tribulation which I haven’t seen the AntiChrist appearance yet. (When I was a young Christian in the 70s I believed in pre-trib rapture so thought it was very close, at that time.

I can think of a few things I would really like to have happen before he returns. For instance, a couple folks I care a lot about that I would like to see repent before Jesus returns.

Yep. I have a number of folks I care a lot about too and praying for them to have a conversion of their hearts to Jesus. Some of them are divorced for reasons that don’t seem serious other than they just “grew apart” as they called it.

What does that have to do with our Lord’s return?

A corollary question that may affect results for this query is What is meant by "the Second Coming"? For instance, is the "Catching Up" (AKA 'the Rapture') or the "Setting Foot on Earth" in view here?

Some theories of prophecy have a separation of various time periods between these two possibly separate events.

Pre-tribulation Rapture Millenialism - 7 years (or more)

Mid-tribulation Rapture Millenialism - 3 1/2 years

Pre-wrath Rapture Millenialism - very little time, but perhaps some months

Post-tribulation Rapture Millenialism - very little time. Possibly a few minutes or immediately, more or less one event from the perspective of those who are not caught up

'We are in the Tribulation Now' Amillenialism - either once the remaining prophecies have been fulfilled, or any time at all

Another question I have: For amil folks, what's the point in having any return of the Christ to earth at all, other than to announce destruction?

(I think I've heard some people say that there is no mass 'Catching Up' at all - it is an event that occurs at the time of each Christian's death. Does that view hold any traction for anyone here?)

Maybe because if they are divorced for trivial reasons they aren't really ready to meet the Lord.
