This week, i’ve learned, CK was an unusual young man.
He defied a lot of typecasting. Airwaves LOVE typecasting! So efficient. Humans LOVE efficiency.

i sense CK was NOT:
1) a hollywood-type star or heart throb. he was a pretty ordinary guy. not out to seduce or beguile.
2) a televangelist.
3) a cult leader.
4) an Anabaptist. BUT, i sensed indications he might go there, given time and exposure. Many have no exposure.
5) a man with a lot of time. only a few years into adult years.

As I have said many times, one of my biggest concerns is that many Anabaptists hop on the evangelical -> liberal progressive pipeline. Here is an example of an Anabaptist whining that her fellow Anabaptists won’t get involved in politics enough:

He’s still in a problematic situation for a Christian. And he should “do violence to no man” and quit his job. But in that moment he isn’t taking up the sword, due to the civil part of his job. When he has soldiers in action, as commander in chief he has taken up the sword.
I’d have an easier time thinking that a General has the sword “in his hand” constantly, even in peace time, since that is his full time job. But he too would be able to “do violence to no man” in a theoretical true complete peacetime.

Bin Ladin was head of an active armed militia group. Kirk was not. The President is a civilian who usually has his armed group killing people.

I think if the President is assassinated because of his military action, that would be Biblical tit for tat.
However, if the President was assassinated because of some deranged, mentally ill person wanted to marry Melania, that is not.
And if some was aiming at a deer, and the bullet strayed traveled two miles and killed the President? Not hardly taking up the sword and dying by the sword.

If, under all these circumstances we think it is Biblical tit for tat, and then we layer over top the idea that anyone who merely talks sympathetically towards gun rights? Then we could have some civilian who never touched a weapon in their life, being killed by accidental stray bullet being judged as dying by the sword because they took up the sword. No.

Kirk’s shooter took up the sword. Not Kirk.
I don't agree with your assessment of the President compared to a general.
Military ranks go from E-1 to O-10 (except during time of war) After O-10 there is the CNO who is currently Admiral Caudle, above him is John Phelan
the Secretary of the Navy, then there is the Secretary of Defense who is Pete Hegseth. After that we have the President himself, Trump.
(we actually had to memorize this as enlisted as well as some presidential succession members)

The actions of the CNO are directed by the president and the actions taken on a weekly if not daily action basis of killing combatants or "smugglers" is directly reflecting the President's office.

Al Qaeda was indirectly started by CIA support against Russia during the Soviet Afghan war and was effectively a militia. Bin Laden was a leader who ended as more of a figurehead without direct control in the final years of his life and would be comparable to any rogue nation's leader.
My opinion is that if the President is not wielding the sword of office always, then likewise the same should be true for Bin Laden. Our country determined what to call them, Ie terrorists, prior to them turning on the Saudi, we would have called them freedom fighters against Russia.

Now another civilian leader such as the Speaker of the House of Representatives would fit better in this dual set you proposed as they are in the line of succession but don't have military control outside of perhaps impact on funding.

I don't look at Kirk as having been wielding the sword, I do look at President Trump as doing so.

What makes you think any Amish bishops have the slightest idea who Charlie Kirk is or have any interest in anything to do with Turning Point USA?

Or for that matter, wading into any outside "English" culture war battles?

I’ve been considering the fuss over this the past weeks and here’s my conclusion. I had not heard of this man before or if I did, I didn’t pay attention. All the quotes being thrown around are cherry picked by either his supporters or detractors to prove their point and I don’t feel a need to listen to hours of his content to form an opinion. I have heard enough to know he’s not someone I will hold up to my children or my church as a role model or hero, but I will acknowledge that he may have done a lot of good.

The real test will be his legacy. If he has been pointing people to Jesus we will see a lot more serving the poor and disadvantaged, loving enemies, and peacemaking. We will see a lot less religious hypocrisy, enforcing godly values by force, compromising religion for the sake of politics and the wealthy storing wealth for their own use. If we see people claiming to be influenced by Charlie Kirk engaging in behavior that clashes with the life of Christ in the scriptures then either he was preaching a false Jesus or he was not preaching the true Jesus in an effective way.

Yes, I’m skeptical, but I do also have a certain amount of genuine hope. The word of God is powerful.

I think people see what they want to see in Kirk. For some he looks like a fighter for revival, for others he’s just a political activist. Some think of him as a strong father figure, others see him as stirring up hate. Some admire how polite he can be in debate, others hear only harsh words. In the end, how we see Kirk may tell us more about ourselves than it does about him.

I like your focus on legacy, Wesley. If the results of his influence are Christlike love, serving the poor, and peace, then Christ is at work. If the results are hypocrisy or chasing wealth and power, then something is off. In the end, what may matter most is which Kirk we choose to remember and what we do with that memory in our own walk with Christ.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Charlie Kirk was an amazing man who answered the call from God (said he) as he saw what was happening to young people especially in college campuses- my guess is you would have the Godly wisdom to not send your children to these institutions unless it was do they could be used by God- Anabaptists typically don’t send their children there- but by 18 years old, Charlie decided he was going into the spiritual battle realm where young people were being indoctrinated and brainwashed. May your children have a heart to reach the list in such a way that many on their way to hell will be reached by their sharing the Gospel- so many never heard it without Charlie devoting his young life to reach the lost.
He was not “the quiet in the land” as many Christians are- I thank God for his- truly, Satan wanted him dead - because he shared the truth- I’m so thankful that since his death there have been over 50,000 requests for new chapters of Turning Point- the more people are telling all about him that new him personally, I know in my heart his love for Jesus was first and his love caused him to care about the souls of millions-

I’m truly humbled and in awe of one person who accomplished I think more than anyone I’ve ever witnessed-in his short life.

I hope so, but the proof will be in the fruit borne by those converts.

Utah Valley is a big public commuter school where students generally lean conservative and where the most common majors are things like business, marketing, education, nursing, and psych. It also functions as a community college where lots of students go to get their basics out of the way before transferring to more expensive 4-year schools. And it reportedly touts its strong connections to the Mormon church as home to the world’s largest education institute for young Mormons.

What evidence do you have that students are being indoctrinated and brainwashed at Utah Valley or at any of the other schools where he spoke? Or are you referring to its conservative Mormon ties as the "indoctrination and brainwashing?" that Charlie Kirk was doing battle against?

True but I’m mindful of the parable of the sower. Charlie sowed more seeds in his short life than most and some seed will fall on fertile soil no doubt, God loves these young people so much and Charlie knew this, so he was faithful to the call.

Well obviously he was shot & killed there. But that was one campus out of so many and he even took the message to South Korea recently. I’ve known many broken hearted parents who lost their children raised in the faith to atheism in college- plus Charlie was reaching young men to “matter”, to marry, have children, quite the opposite of the globalists. Hey I’ve heard progression hit Mennonite colleges so who’s exempt? My dear friend went to a supposed Christian college where he lost his faith and had homosexual speakers. We know there is a spiritual war going on for the souls of the young. I see it on my town- I was encouraged that between 2-3000 showed up for a prayer vigil on our town square where we are generally witnessing a small mob shouting on the corner for abortion and gay rights in “anger”- this was a blessing to hear Christ lifted up.
