Charlie Kirk Shot

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I am glad that some good can come of this. It has otherwise had me feeling quite sad about being in a divided country, and the loss of a man who wanted to help heal that divide.

God can work all things together for good.

Why i have so much hope for young men. Not one man. Not an idol or sacred cow. Many. Many.

They need encouragement. They need to know Truth about their God-designed importance.
i’ve long believed, if young men understood how important they are, there would be no “fatherless”* problem, jails would be empty.

*i have to use quotes for fatherlessness.
even decades ago when divorce and single parent homes were not the norm, my father would loudly protest:
NO SUCH THING. EVERY CHILD HAS A FATHER!! ok, dad. when you’re right, you’re right. :)

The pretty young lady in blue is in need of Truth, forgiveness and prayer.

cynangelin WROTE:
We Christians in India mourn the death of Charlie, our brother in Christ, and have kept his family in our prayers.
The devil thought that by killing Charlie he could silence the truth and the word of God that Charlie boldly preached,
but God has turned it into a fire burning within His people all over the world, a fire that will continue to burn in the hearts of all His people, leading them to live for and love our Lord Jesus Christ faithfully until the very end.

The internet allowed the tremendous reception of Pope Leo to be seen, now this.
The crowds of mostly young people from all over the world.
No violence or destruction reported.

(i wish) Erika Kirk would have Amish elders to protect and guide her (for the next 3 years).
To protect her from brutal public opinions and politics, to give her time to work through shock and change, to help her find good footing in faith. (i believe) anything less is inhumane.

But what should be equally concerning to us is how our nation responds to violent incidents like these. Most Americans are in shock, grieving, and rightly concerned for the future of our nation. Yet there are outliers on both ends of the ideological spectrum who seem inclined to assign a deeper meaning to Kirk’s murder—one that instrumentalizes it to galvanize further support for their respective camps and causes.

On the far left, some talk as if Kirk deserved what happened to him for his past comments on subjects like race, sexuality, guns, and even empathy, which critics have deemed deeply dehumanizing. Kirk is someone who died on the hill he chose and whose death can thus be weaponized against his own rhetoric and ideology. By contrast, some on the far right speak of Kirk’s death as advancing a holy cause in enemy territory. Kirk is a slain saint and hero whose murder is a rallying cry and call to arms for conservatives and Christians like him. In short, in a mutual display of selective outrage and empathy, the far left blames Kirk’s death on the right and the far right blames his death on the left.

Ironically, these impulses draw from the same source and therefore cause the same effect by casting Kirk as a scapegoat. In each case, Kirk’s murder is assigned a kind of sacred significance that unites each faction around their respective ideologies—in such a way that his death becomes ammunition for further partisan violence.
It is certainly true he is a slain martyr
If only he could get a chapter in the Martyr's Mirror, the lithograph could be "The American Comeback".

i thought about adding:
sometimes my impossible dreams can be oddly specific.

i suppose it was my experience after my husband died, following years of illness, death wasn’t unexpected, but, i’ve learned through losses of a number of loved ones, there is no preparation, there is no good time. the finality of death is something beyond understanding. even when you’re perfectly at peace and accepting. it’s still a loss to you, with many adjustments.

3 years.
before i stumbled onto MD, i didn’t realize it, but, i’d fairly lived in a state of shock - for about 3 years. i functioned enough that no one noticed. but. inside, no. acutely numb inside.

some things happened, i got a medical diagnosis of suspected ovarian cancer. that shook things up! mainly, it forced me to go for a bunch of appointments, then surgery. then a surgical accident. it was pretty dramatic. i told the surgeon, don’t worry, i’m prepared if it’s my time. i survived. they determined there was no cancer! in recovery, i stumbled onto MD, where i found a lively (mostly young, mostly welcoming) bunch of believers. that brought me out of it, mostly.

shock and trauma take time.

later the Amish Nickel Mines tragedy happened. [Correction, that was 2006]
i was touched by their quiet but firm refusal of media circus. i believed that was best.

Then i realized, ALL traumatized and recently bereaved people should be protected from (media circus).
It’s a time of shock and horror. It shouldn’t be exploited.

It is exploited.
Media comes+goes, victims are left with the cold reality that takes time, it’s not glamorous, it’s lengthy and lonely.

Nothing’s changed.
Except, there are popular victims to exploit, many ignored, many deliberately hidden, ‘cause not PC.

i saw a little critique of Erika already this morning in a NY Times blurb.
i thought, couldn’t you just leave her alone for a week or so? is this really necessary? :-|

anyway. yes. 3 years is what comes to mind. could be more.

He wasn’t, although promoting open debate, listening to people you disagree with, and encouraging the ballot box over violent revolution is certainly the direction I’d prefer to see taken, politically speaking.

I really, really don’t like people like Andrew Tate or Nick Fuentes influencing young people… Charlie Kirk was a force for good and an alternative to that other message.
