As a millennial, I didn't find it shocking. Sad, but not shocking. For instance, 9/11 24 years ago was shocking to me.
It has been on the news a lot the past 24 hours. But I doubt that even 10% of Americans even knew who he was. He mostly had a very partisan online following but that is a small fraction of the country.
Agreed, no one in my sphere knew him.
I’ve heard his name, but I’ve never listened or watched anything he’s said that I can remember other than a clip or two possibly. I wouldn’t have recognized his voice if I heard it. I knew he was a conservative speaker or podcaster or something. But it’s clear from the last couple of days that he had an immense following and a lot of influence.

^^This is me.
From what i now see, he had/has a LOYAL young following, and many emotional irrational naysayers. It takes fortitude to stand up to emotional naysayers. Evidently he was able to do it without losing his cool or resorting to coarse language. More of that would help matters. i believe there is lots more, hopefully lots more will be forthcoming.

Prayers for his young family. That’s the saddest part. No substitute for dad.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Actually, I kind of liked Charlie Kirk. He was intelligent, charming, and interesting — good at bringing people together, organized, disciplined. I disagreed with him about most things, but even so, I saw something to respect in who he was and how good he was at building a movement.
I’ve been aware of him for years but never followed him in any way. Today I’ve watched some of his videos and he comes across as very like able, kind and empathetic with his interlocutors and fairly knowledgeable. Most importantly, he clearly loved Jesus and cared more about sharing his faith than any political program. I’m sad for his family and sad for the loss of his presence in the public square.

Wow. This is pretty scary. When in American history have the officials in the highest seats of power wielded the power of the government apparatus to this extent to revere a partisan pundit? It must be a big honor to his family to see the most powerful people on the planet gather their power together to honor him. Charlie wasn't a politician, or a soldier, or in any way representative of America in any way, and they still go out of their way to give him overwhelming honor. He was essentially just a preacher/apologist for a certain political ideology. Remarkable statement to give this much honor to an ideological advocate.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

As it has been from the beginning, might makes right.

I never really knew of the guy. Initially I thought he was the same guy who did the Islam mocking art.

The Bible says to give honor to whom honor is due. Whether YOU think he deserves it or not is insignificant. Charlie was bold in hos faith and started Turning Point at 18 years old. Sharing his faith like he had among young people- a report came out that surprised the masses- the largest generation seeking Christian church right now is Gen Z. It means diy squat whether a crowd of Anabaptists don’t recognize the good he was trying to do in this evil generation. I’m sure you have a better way of leading young people out of evil but this was Charlie’s way and he was true to what he felt the Lird wanted him to do. Get over it.

This is not scary.

What is scary is that we live in an environment where we have assassins targeting people like Trump or Charlie Kirk for their political views.

I'm appreciating the Christian/Biblical and historical perspective of this team... (African American Bible teacher, African American Christian civil engagement leader/advocate (Independent) and former history teacher now writer/podcaster (also civics and history).
They express and discuss a lot of the sentiments I'm having right now... This helped me process those better and also land at a more Christ-centered/way-of-Jesus mindset.

A Confessing Church would acknowledge the inescapable realities of sin and injustice in every human institution, including every political party. It would wholeheartedly reject any suggestion that one party or movement is the party of God. Paul D Miller
