Everyone has their own view, i don’t view the Politics subforum as an evil godless place.
Evidently, i’m not alone:

MN Home Page:
Politics
Events occurring and how they relate/affect Anabaptist faith and culture.
i have no problem others see it differently.

i’m grateful for Robert and mods.
i credit MD-MN’s longevity to admin+mods. So many forum attempts fall flat. Moderating is sensitive business.
When leadership is good, it’s often taken for granted. When lost, rude awakenings and regrets often follow.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

"We" can't? That's fine, but if you want to discuss the connected political issues, go do it in Politics.
So … if the joke only works because it’s tied to a serious event or issue, but then people aren’t allowed to discuss that connection, what does it mean to make the joke in the first place? Isn’t that a bit like asking Mrs. Lincoln if she enjoyed the play, while insisting no one mention what happened at Ford’s Theatre?
No, I don't think so.

The Red Alert for me is when the names of politicians are mentioned or when the words Republican or Democrat is part of the post.

So if it's okay if it's a bunch of nudge-nudge-wink-wink oblique references to Schrump and Schemocratic Party?

Red Alert!

I’ve seen very successful posts on the forum discussing today’s issues without a single mention (hinted or otherwise) of politicians or political parties. It can be done and has been done by posters who don’t obsess over politics or politicians. The political blame games don’t work for Average Joe anymore. Average Joe wants his dollar to grow and less government including the discussions of government, not more. At least that’s what my friends, neighbors and family want.

It should be noted that the above is a political statement, and probably belongs in the Politics forum.

Just as an example.

John beat me to it, but I was about to say that this is a deeply political comment, even though it doesn't mention a particular party or politician. It's definitely an example of nudge-nudge-wink-wink "we're not being political except we are" type of discussion.

If that's an old saying, it's one I haven't heard before. 8-)

I have heard it multiple times in the lawyer podcasts I listen to, or something very similar.

The post WAS in Mennolight. I even reminded everyone it was. It was light hearted and intended that way. If someone reads a post and takes it the wrong way, that is not the fault of the poster as much as the reader. We are adults and we can ask a clarifying question and we can also roll our eyes and move on.

Demanding everything is a certain way is very self centered and not reflecting the light of Christ. I am not pointing a finger, just reminding everyone that life in this world is offensive in many ways. We are called to shake the dust off our sandals and move on, not demand our way.

All this reminds me of another old saying:

He who laughs last ... didn't get the joke!
