I would suspect that the reason why DOD schools have better performance is that more have higher percentage of fathers in their lives.
yes. and, i believe the military emphasizes (demands) respect for family (whatever family one has).
they have the right+responsibility to establish BOUNDARIES of all description, to ALL involved.

parochial schools, private schools, home schools, similar. they establish BOUNDARIES.
i’m not sure how Charter Schools work.

i presume all militaries everywhere have similar ways of operating.

all my life, i’ve been sad to think that many believe the military is “the place” for “problem” young men to go, to be “straightened out”. this is the first job of parents, churches+schools should support what begins at home. [(abuse is NOT ok, and can be illegal, no matter where it occurs.) abuse is a different matter.]

before mid-60’s, i don’t believe there was so much difference in public schools (from DOD). i was in very mixed schools, race, religion, culture, social status, education of parents - ALL students were expected to “leave all that at home” and concentrate on school work.

this was how the playing field was leveled. i was on the low end of the scale socially and financially, but, expectations wrt my grades and responsibilities were the same as students with doctors, professors, etc. as parents.

i had to leave a LOT at home. i presume others did, too. i’m sure of it.

i think that’s what the military does. personal accountability.

it’s what Jesus does. amazingly well.

Hegelian .. Re: Bunny Trails

^^Coincidentally, this video gets into it:
(i wasn’t expecting it by the headline)

TIMCAST IRL / DC Police Commander Placed On Leave After Falsifying Crime Data To Make DC Seem Safer / 18min

Carter @CarterBanks (X)

i don’t believe any here are Christians. of course i think that would help them.
to me, they are young adults doing their best to try to figure things out based on their own human reasoning, and bits of education, reliance on google, etc.

i presume they vote.

8:30 mark - culture, parents must be held accountable. the problems of rewarding crime.

I don't know what meaning was intended by pairing a headline of "Officers Clear More Homeless People from Sites Around Washington" with a picture of a garbage truck, but I don't think it's unreasonable to interpret it as identifying homeless people as garbage. Human beings are not garbage. I don't think it is funny at all.

It’s necessary to have garbage trucks or dumpsters to cleanup the massive amounts of trash that piles up in homeless encampments.
Homeless people don’t pay for trash service, so their camps just accumulate trash. While they are there, the cities generally don’t bother cleaning up the sites. But once the people are moved out, the city will then come in and get rid of everything left behind.
If there is a campsite in a halfway secluded area, they can easily use dumpsters. If the city is cleaning up a sidewalk area, I can see them just driving along the curb, hand loading the stuff straight into garbage trucks.

The way it was presented bothered me too - the joke seems to be an insinuation that the homeless people are being loaded into the garbage truck.

Yes, I'm sure something along those lines is what is happening in the picture. But it was paired with a headline about homeless people, not the trash they leave behind.

The thread name is "I think it is funny." I thought it was humorous because it could easily be mistaken from the headline and the photo. I thought the site did a very poor job by tying the two together. I thought that the poor job was was humorous because it could be easily mistaken. If you do not, that is okay. I did. It is not unlike some of the Church signs or Bulletin announcements that can easily be taken the wrong way. I thought it was funny. I posted it because I do think it is funny. I still think it is funny. Not everything I think is funny is funny to everyone else. That is why I named the thread "I think it is funny." I am not saying it has to be funny to anyone else. Feel free to not laugh or smile.

i agree with all this AND - -
i also see it as a “bite” against MANY MANY false/misleading/clickbait headlines now seen everywhere - that have little or nothing to do with content. Recently, i’ve read, “headline writing” is a stand-alone job - as many reading may have wondered.

On forum, it used to be more common to see 1) thread subject lines mismatched to 2) OPs, and 3) POLLS.
i don’t notice that happening so much anymore. It could get puzzling, dependng on which part of 3 each poster would choose.

i have less patience with professional, paid “journalists” than everyday laypersons’ comments, opinions.

All of it can be subject to humor, and, as Robert says, no matter what day it is, humor is subjective.

i wasn’t sure where the August 16 posts were from.
my first guess was the D.C. thread. later, i thought, no, must have been the funny thread.

But not really artistic if it is simply the same designs repeated over and over for generations.
We disagree with your ideas of what qualifies as artistic. We consider it both artistic and well-made.
