Re: Bill Gothard and his schtick
So can we expect Wilson to speak softly since he has his own big schtick going on?

Re: Bill Gothard and his schtick
The last time I was in an Episcopalian church, there were also multiple American flags present. Another I went to had a portrait of a former President who attended there. Interestingly enough Christianity Today hasn’t been doing articles decrying that.Old newspaper articles praising Ronald Reagan dotted the walls, as did multiple American flags.
Outside of Anabaptist groups, most churches are comfortable with supporting their country, having national flags, and government employees, officers, policemen, and so on attending there. Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian, United Church of Christ, Catholic, and many others.
I also don’t understand what any of this has to do with Bill Gothard. He was ecumenical. Doug Wilson is “turbo” Reformed, trying to be so Reformed that much of the rest of the Reformed world considers him too much so. I do enjoy having a laugh with my Eastern friends that he’s embraced their practices of communion for infants.

I see the secretary of defense is reposting a video of Doug Wilson expressing his conviction that women should not be allowed to vote.

As far as I know beachy women generally don't vote, so maybe they will be held in high regard by the federal occupation.

Yes even when i consider voting an useless mechanism to make changes repeal the 19th ammendment is not a good ideaJudas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 10:47 pmShould we start with his attitude towards women? If one of our men said half the things he did, they would be taken aside and given a bit of wise counsel. That would be BEFORE the ministry got involved.

Do you consider voting itself to be useless? Or do you just choose not to do it yourself?Thomas_muntzer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 10:21 amYes even when i consider voting an useless mechanism to make changes repeal the 19th ammendment is not a good ideaJudas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 10:47 pmShould we start with his attitude towards women? I mean, what is the alternative? Coronation of inherited monarchs who rule by some notion of divine right? A single party choosing leaders through the central committee of the party politburo? Political change via military coups?
In any event I doubt repeal of the 19th Amendment will be a winning political issue for Republicans. There are more women voters than male voters in this country. And women turn out at higher rates than men.

While I agree repealing this part of the constitution is incredibly unlikely, I think it's for other reasons. You're assuming that women would ALL vote to protect their right to vote. A lot of online influencers are women who preach to their audience values like Wilson's, and would persuade other women to vote for candidates even if they are announcing they will run on repealing the 19th.
You're also assuming that Republicans win by popular majority vote, which often isn't true in Federal elections.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

Right, and all such a candidate would need to do would be win the primary, then in the general election convince enough people that he was the best choice because the other party is so dangerously extreme and maybe he didn't really mean those things he said while campaigning in the primary. Create enough fear and voters will vote against their self interests.
I agree that it's unlikely, but not as unlikely as it seems at first glance.

I'm not assuming all women vote in lock step with any party or issue.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 2:34 pmWhile I agree repealing this part of the constitution is incredibly unlikely, I think it's for other reasons. But I do doubt there is a plurality of women VOTERS who are willing to vote in favor of losing their right to vote. There isn't a plurality of male voters in favor of that either. It is an incredibly fringe issue down there with people who want to reinstate slavery or segregation or otherwise revert back to the 19th Century.
The fact that Doug Wilson or Pete Hegseth might be talking about it says more about them and their judgement than it does about the salience of the issue itself.
